It’s so shocking to see people in-game with the items you get when you spend $80. I’m not shaming anyone, but why invest that kind of money into a “museum” version of the game? You know, a version that will run its course and then slowly die because that’s it. It honestly just seems like a waste to me.
It would be different if Blizzard gave players information about what they planned to do next with this version of the game. If they announced they would keep the game alive with something like WOTLK+ then yes… I could see $80 being reasonable. But if they continue going down the expansion train then no… it’s not worth it. Cata was the beginning of the slippery slope. MOP was beautiful…that’s it. It’s ultimately retail at this point. I don’t want to play these again and won’t play these again.
I don’t have either version of whatever “deluxe” edition of WotLK they’re selling, but seeing as how in retail I can get enough gold for like 3 tokens per month with trivial amounts of effort I see why it’d be easy to buy.
It’s not like I’m gonna spent b net money on much else.
$80 isn’t a lot of money to a lot of people. It’s a cosmetic item and one that xfers into retail as well. I still think paying for cosmetics is dumb… but it’s a staple in literally every game out there these days so
You raise an interesting point. The fact that retail WoW is still going after 18 years is pretty remarkable. I don’t think many people would’ve guessed when they invested 8-10 days into the first 60 (if not more) they’d be able to play that character for the next 18 years. I think my original character is eligbile to be drafted now. That degree of “permanence” is very abnormal for an online game.
The reasons you talk about for thinking the $80 is a poor investment if WOTLK Classic is the end of the line is the main reason I argued for even higher accelerated XP gain than Joyous Journeys.
Looking from this perspective I can say that the relative cost, when compared to other goods, is much less than it was in the past.
By using the US average fuel price as a benchmark for consumer goods I would have guessed that we could have expected to pay as much as $112 for the collectors edition.
Although I am not buying it, I would say this is a good value relatively speaking
