8 O'clock puzzle. Am I doing something wrong?

I’ve done the puzzle, start to finish, 4 times now. I’ve followed the guide precisely. Have done all of the statues in accordance to the guide. Yet the vault has not unlocked at the end. Am I missing something?

I start the run by killing all Catacomb Rats

I then hit Begin and then Submit on the console

I then count all the rats and assign the statues in accordance with the cheat sheet

I then press Submit and get the magnifying glass

I then repeat the rat counting and statue placing and then hit submit, I either get a magnifying glass or struck by nonlethal lightning.’

I have done this 4 times now and I am very lost. Am I missing something or is there a bug I don’t know about?

Are you killing the rats as you go regardless of type? And then only counting the regular ones.

Sometimes they run over pressure plates.

You have to do it 3 times, getting the magnifying glass each time. If you get shocked, it resets.

The WeakAura that WoWhead has posted is also really helpful.

edit: There was a hotfix that reduced the number of correct entries from 7 to 3.

What does running over a pressure plate do?

Well if the rat is on it, it messes with the result. Since they’re an entity just like a statue would be.

So when I kill them make sure theyre not on a plate? Also, when you say whe I get shocked it resets. Do you mean the number lock Im on or the whole thing?

The whole thing resets if you get shocked.

if you leave statues on a previous plate while doing the next step, it will fail also, for that matter…in case you are doing that

This. A lot of times it ends up in failure because one rat (whether it be a Cata rat or regular rat) slips by and either ends up being on the pressure plate, or you accidentally missed one in your counting/rat clearing, I remember failing twice because there was one rat sneakily hiding in the corner of the room with the two closed off doors that required the respective keys to access.

I highly recommend using /tar rat/cata to get a clear, definitive count that both are currently cleared from the instance for the moment.

Edit: Just saw you got it. Congrats. :3 I hope you enjoy the mount, friend.

It triggers as a “statue is on this plate” and will cause the entry code to fail.

The puzzle is all about how many objects (or people or rats) stepping on a certain pressure plate. Enter code after count the number or rats that have spawned. Do some math (or follow guide). Each code entered successfully will spawn a new set of rats to count.

how many locks are there suppose to be? all the guides said 7 but when I first interracted with the enigma machine is said there were 3 locks remaining. Did it get nerfed or did mine bug? It confusing since the only time I got it to work was when the count for both the 5/7 lock and the 3/7 lock were both the same count based on the infographic for the number of rats vs. statues on plates.

I think I am bad at math/counting. I have the macros to check if any rats/catacomb rats are alive, I kill them and count the rats but more times than not I still get lightninged and have to start over,

It was hotfixed to make it 3.

I havent done it but im sure theres a video on youtube for all puzzles

Ok, now that it’s only 3… like mine. Any idea of how to make\find the chart to use for the updated one? Thanks. Much appreciated any help.

Were you able to solve it using the charts used for 7 puzzles… or is there another chart somewhere. Thanks

I messed it up 3x and 2 of the failures, I have no idea what was wrong. I swore I did it right.
If you get a BM hunter to do it with you they can use their char and their pets to do the switches for you so that you don’t need any statues.

This took me a frustrating number of attempts to get right.

My advice is to just be patient and meticulous.

Refresh. Go in and kill all the catacomb rats.
Hit Begin and then Submit.

Now go count all the rats, killing them as you go.

I strongly advise using a /target rat macro because there is a couple of really annoying ones that like to hide in corners or cut into walls. Using a target macro will help you get them all. And don’t use an AOE to kill them. I was using spinning kick and I think I was accidently killing rats without noticing. So /target rat, use a single target attack to kill it.

I counted them off in /say to myself so I could keep track.

Once you have a count, use the cheat sheet on wowhead (I don’t know if he fixed it, but the one Thraun used in his video was wrong).

Remember to remove the statues after each submission.

Thank you! Found the updated chart… Will be trying it later and let everyone know. Much appreciated!
To find the updated chart. Goto wowhead and search for “8 o’clock puzzle”

Just did it… Works just fine. Thank you to all that helped. Woot!

I got the weakaura. It helps with the math.
