It is not so common these days, but yes 8 hour maintenance is within the realm normalcy for WoW. Every Tuesday was an 8 hour maintenance day once upon a time, though those days are long behind us. On average it’s less than hour, servers don’t even restart for expansion launches anymore. Every now and again, though, it just takes a while.
