I’ve seen video evidence.

You’ve seen Tipsout talk about a system that doesn’t exist for 10 minutes. You’ve seen Asmongold get automatically squelched and then banned for abusing the reporting feature.

You haven’t seen anyone get an automated ban via mass reports. I think you just misunderstand how Blizzards reporting systems work.

We often see players claim they were ‘mass reported’ in a Battleground resulting in a PVP Non-Participation suspension. In reality, PVP Non-Participation suspensions are the result of manual reviews of multiple BGs worth of information.

Again, mass reports do not lead to account closures or suspensions unless and until those reports are reviewed for inappropriate content and then action is taken.

The number of reports mean very little, one report could cause the same penalty as a number of reports, as long as the Gm reviewing the report and in game logs finds evidence of rule breaking.

To expand on the correct info Perl already gave, here is a bit more about the in game reporting and penalty system. You can NOT get an automated Silence or Ban.

here is no such thing as an automatic ban, all reports are reviewed, and any penalties are handed down by actual GM staff.

Even bot bans, which can be programmed and tracked into the anti cheat programming with in Blizzard’s game, are all reviewed by actual people to ensure proper handling.

That is what I am talking about AND it leaves out a critical fact - Asmon got a suspension for abusing the reporting system by having his followers do that.

• Mass chat report = Squelch (designed for spammers like gold sellers)
• Overturned on appeal
• Suspension from game was then issued for abusing the report system

This was all public back then and I am surprised to see Wowhead get it wrong.

Except the only thing accomplished with mass reporting is that the person reported may be temporarily squelched. Those reports have no impact on the penalties that are discussed here. The investigations that happen regarding “use of bots of third-party software” may be started as the result of player reports, but the majority of them are not (nor would they result in a penalty regardless of how many reports they may have received).

That’s simply not how it works. People can report until they’re blue in the face if they want to. Having multiple reports does not and never has caused a ban to happen. Those can only be initiated by a real live person and it’s based on Blizzard’s logs of account activity.

You are free to believe whatever you want. I don’t see why you would think all of these support managers, MVPs, and Community Council members are all lying. They’re not the one that can make Youtube videos for profit.

As a comparison, the difference here is that I’m using academic sources from people who are extensively well-versed in Blizzard’s report and penalty systems. You’re using whatever you find on google.
