8.3 PTR Datamining SPOILERS

VOs for 8.3 are on MMO-Champion and according to Li Li Stormstout’s VO her and Chen are fighting against Mogu.

Vulpera seem to be helping the Horde with trade lines and the such. Makes sense, that’s how they survived in Vol’dun. I’d imagine that’s the compacity we’ll mostly see them in the future, working to keep trade lines between posts alive.

Hearing Thalyssra’s line in voice… hm. Could be Blizzard just messing with us though.

Li Li Stormstout: “We’re in the middle of a warzone, and you’re thinking about BREW!?”

Oh Chen. /canned laughter.

Is Darion Mograine’s VO still encrypted? I am very curious about why that one is encrypted, but the rest aren’t.

High Tinker is an elected position, and Mekkatorque remained popular enough to remain High Tinker from the Second War to the present day in spite of his mistakes. Mekkatorque accidentally caused the fall of Gnomeregan by trusting someone who he thought to be a close friend, but he also spearheaded the retaking of Gnomeregan and without hesitation ordered Thermaplugg’s death in Classic and personally cut him in half when he tried ambushing him. He didn’t sit on his rear and wait for everything to fix itself, he actually tried and succeeded in ensuring that gnomekind survived regardless of the mistake, and continued efforts to fix his mistakes and clean up Gnomeregan. Only reason they haven’t retaken it fully I think is because Blizzard didn’t want to remove it as a dungeon.

Gnomes are established a fairly forgiving and generally selfless folk, that’s not exactly a new trait. They didn’t even warn the Alliance about the trogg invasion because they didn’t want to divert attention, concern or resources from those fighting the Burning Legion and the Scourge. If Gelbin intentionally caused and planned the gassing, that’s different, but it appears to be fairly common knowledge that Thermaplugg caused it, so why would gnomekind (and I specify gnomekind, rather than humankind or orckind or any other less forgiving and selfless folk as a society) blame Mekkatorque for trusting a fellow gnome who, extremely uncharacteristically for a gnome, turned on them?

I don’t know if what the gnomes had was an actual democracy. From what I recall, the position of High Tinker was granted by the Tinker’s Court, not by a popular vote.

Also, Mekkatorque lost all legal power after Gnomeregan fell since there was no government. Gnomes kept following him cause they believed in him.

Well apparently some Allied race dks are datamined or something, so maybe it’s a tie in to that.

“Rather than a monarch, gnomes elected their leaders by common consent, based on the merits of their work and their benefits to the gnomish race. The gnomish race has not had a proper king or queen for over four hundred years, instead preferring to elect their highest officials for set terms of service.”

From Wowpedia. Sounds like a fairly democratic meritocracy to me.

I’d doubt they’d encrypt for something as silly as that. It really isn’t worth keeping a secret. The Lich King has encrypted VO too. Hopefully, it’s his original voice and not his gross new one. Also there’s a new Icecrown map also encrypted. I’m thinking it might be for 8.3.5

iirc, the position of High Tinker was given to whoever won an invention contest. Where the judges were the tinker’s court. Which Geblin won numerous times (which caused Sicco to grow envious towards his old friend)

WTF?

If the next expansion is Shadowlands then having ICC as the point of entry would make sense. Though the fact that they are allowing more races to be DKs is the real surprise.

This is kind of how I feel about Vulpera as well. I can see the obvious appeal. They’re cute little animal people. I can also see why the Alliance- with it’s array of standard fantasy races would greatly appreciate the addition of the classic “cute little animal person” race.

I really wanted Gilblins. But Goblins as a whole are unfortunately the least popular of the “main races”, so basing an AR off of them would never attract enough players to make it worth it.

This could be very interesting, if they’re constructing a new scenario to account for the new races.

The question is have the gnomes moved to Mechagon or did Mekkatorque head there to personally greet new mechagnome adventurers.

Next question: Do non-mechanized gnomes get access to what is technically their new capital city, or is it phased to mechagnomes only?

Or that he didn’t confirm for himself BEFORE SETTING OFF A NUCLEAR DEVICE.

Would any of you be remotely this forgiving if this was done by your real world leader? Because my test of writing is “is this how real people would react?” In this case, the only way I could answer “yes” is if the gnomes are basically adorably stupid or zealots. Neither of which is supposed to be true.

If they are actually a democracy, where is the rival candidate coming along and saying, “Here’s my campaign pitch: I didn’t kill most of our people and irradiate our homeland.”

I know I’m expecting a bit much of a joke race, but I want them to not be a joke race.

No, your test of writing is “is this how humans would react?” and applying that to a fantasy race. I can’t truly fault you for it, because it’s a natural reflex to apply our own views of morality to what we know and to scenarios we encounter. But this isn’t how gnomes have been established to act. They never had any notable gnome-on-gnome violence in the 400 years between King Mechagon’s disappearance and Thermaplugg’s betrayal.

“Unlike many other races such as the dwarves, orcs, and humans, the gnomes had no history of internecine violence prior to the fall of Gnomeregan. Generally speaking, gnomes simply do not fight gnomes. In a world of hostile creatures and Tall Folk, it goes without saying that gnomes have to rely on each other. This is why gnomes don’t need primogeniture and why they abandoned monarchy centuries ago, instead electing their leaders by common consent based on their work’s benefit to the race as a whole. It is unthinkable for a gnome to act in a selfish manner in spite of the cost to their people, which made Sicco Thermaplugg’s betrayal all the more shocking.”

From Wowpedia. ht tps://wow.gamepedia.com/Gnome#Culture

This is why gnomes don’t blame Mekkatorque. Because why would a gnome want to cause harm to another gnome? It’s completely unprecedented! It never happened before, and there was no reason to believe it could, because “in a world of Tall Folk”, gnomes needed to stick together! They only stopped being as isolationist towards everyone not a dwarf (their seat on the Alliance of Lordaeron was as part of the dwarven delegation) after the fall of Gnomeregan. Why would Mekkatorque even think that Thermaplugg wanted to usurp his position? Thermaplugg was the first gnome in at least 400 years who decided he preferred advancing his own personal, selfish ambitions at the cost of gnomish lives!

Humans in real life have backstabbed each other for less. But not gnomes.

Why would he? It was an emergency situation, time was quickly running out since the lower levels of Gnomeregan had already been overwhelmed by the troggs, and his chief advisor/best friend had a plan that made perfect sense.

Also, the phrase “SETTING OFF A NUCLEAR DEVICE” is pretty misleading. It brings to mind someone detonating a nuke. That’s not what happened. The plan called for pumping irradiated gas into the lower levels of the city that the troggs had taken over. The gnome populace had already been evacuated to the upper levels, and all corridors and air vents were sealed off to prevent any of the gas from leaking up to the gnomes. The problem, of course, was that Sicco lied. The gas didn’t kill the troggs, it just pissed them off. And he also left the vents open, so the gas got pumped directly into the inhabited sections.

It was a monumental betrayal, and one that absolutely no one saw coming. I do not blame Gelbin for it at all.
