8.2 Mount Equipment and Water Strider

I still wish you can socket individual mounts and those mounts stay socketed across the account. So say if you want a bike that water walks or a rat that doesn’t daze, then there you go. Along with cosmetic mount equipment slots to customize the mount even further. To me, that would want to make me use other mounts more so, so i can see what kind of cosmetic crap i can put, like a Bear on fire that can waterwalk. Or… idk, a Rocket that is Frozen with a parachute.

What are the benefits of having a glorified talent row (“Mount Equipment’s” current implementation) outside of spending slightly less gold (btw, Gold isn’t that hard to make anymore, 15 minutes, boom, your a discount Scrooge McDuck swimming in a sea of gold. Okay that’s a little over-exaggerating.) and having one choice you make affect all the mounts per character that is generally decent but only good for certain situations like a talent but for mounts? (hence the name glorified talent row)

The article concerns PTR activity. No where will you find Blizzard stating that the item will continue to be mailed to level 100+ alts once it goes live. As I stated, I believe this is PTR specific to allow for easier testing.

Once again, PTR activity. And the article isn’t accurate. Log in to the PTR and go buy one of the items. You will find that you are only allowed to purchase one (allowed only one in bags), until you consume it or send it off to an alt to be used.

Originally on the PTR, it was not unique. You could purchase as many as you like and carry as many as you like, and they stacked. Blizzard didn’t make that change just to send you out to the Anglers Wharf each time. There’s another reason, probably bug/exploit related.

That, to most everyone I would wager, would be the logical design for system. But there’s something else. There’s got to be a reason why it’s mount-wide, character specific and not account-wide, mount specific. It may be something as simple as the coding wouldn’t work in the logical configuration. But there is a reason other than just being a bad design.

Sorry, i used your strawman to cook my toast. :bread:

Except it is. I never said I agreed with it but the design philosophy of the devs has been each x-pac is a gated experience. It’s one of the big arguments they have against things like player housing.

Why use a strawman to cook toast when you can use Teldrassil?

Well, there is no reason on why the Water Strider loses its Water Walking passive over for mount equipments as well.

But in the end, everything that has changed for the worse in this game, it isn’t based of reasons, but excuses for poorly design gameplay.

“Oh, we detected a high amount of usage for the Water Striders, so we’re going to nerf them and introduce mount equipment,” yet, that is Blizzards fault because the only mount that can walk across water at most is the Water Striders. Ok, Shamans and DK’s, they don’t have to worry so much about using the Water Strider since they have there own water walking abilities, and well, as for druids, they can just swim.

“One of the worst”, definitely. But it’s got lots of competition for “worst”.

True. The worse thing the devs has done to this game is class pruning and ruining class fantasy.

Oh, I fully agree. Especially since they have since re-tuned the BoA water walking mount equipment piece to not break with fall damage. The original PTR version would. But now that it works exactly like the waterstrider’s innate ability, to me there is no reason to not exclude the waterstrider from being able to use the mount equipment. Unless they are going to convert the BoA item to a toy or an heirloom, which to me seems doable since they changed the status to allow for only a single unit being able to purchase or carry. But then again, it is exactly like the flightpath map available from the BfA war faction quartermasters in that regard, and thus will likely remain as is. Expansion specific BoA item that requires rep to purchase.
And I think that is the give and take that Blizzard is so well known for. Characters with rep receive a free one. Alts can make use of the item without the rep required but at a cost. Goes back to what Kaivaxx mentioned in the big thread regarding if alts should have everything. So many toys, so few alts get to make use of.

I always worry when you disappear, buddy. GD is to Raistlin like Ronald is to McDs, it just doesn’t feel the same without that big, happy snailing mug.

:hugs:

on the PTR the WW equipment isn’t account wide.

that means lower characters that could use the strider no longer have WW at all.

hope they fix it…

Alts were supposed to get a 1-time free WW object, if you have a char that earned one of the striders prior to 8.2.

Supposed to, yes. But on the PTR only level 100+ alts got them.

We don’t know what their intention is for live.

On live, only level 100+ will get them for free. Alts, gotta have reputation with The Anglers, and be level 100+ in order to purchase them for other toons below level 100.

Hmm… Good idea actually.

dumps the strawman in the ocean and use Teldrassil to cook his toast kabob

Well it’s early yet. Let’s see what happens when they release it. Hope springs eternal! :sunglasses::sunglasses:

Wanted to make some joke about water striders not being able to easily cross “Hope Springs” without help… but meh, I’m just tired and sad.

/me queues up a copy of “Old Yeller” and digitally replaces the dog with his crimson water strider.

Hope may be springing but it’s draining fast down the channels Blizzard has carved with every removal…

The developers were the ones who said that players who have exalted rep with Anglers would get 1 pair of shoes for any charater 100 or above. They also said that no character below level 100 could purchase the shoes, but any toon level 20 or above could wear them. They are account bound so a high level toon can buy them and ship them off to the low level toons.

The purpose of me posting the photo from the wowhead article was to show that the item has changed from being stack-able to unique equip.

This is a increase time played move on Blizzards part. They need to encourage people to purchase the non-rep shoes from the AH, as this is a new item that blacksmiths make and if everyone has stacks of Angler shoes, no one would want the blacksmith one. As of right now, the blacksmith version is not unique equip.

However, you take a lot of damage, where when you would ride the strider, you’d take some, but not much because striders has springy legs. I tested this out in the PTR and on Live server by jumping off cliffs. The higher I went on the PTR, the more damage I’d take. Live, I took damage, but it was the same amount from all levels.

Strange, I went out to the Anglers just 2 days ago and the item was account bound. I mailed it to a toon just to verify.

As far as I know they’re doing this so you have to go back to how it was before, it’s almost like if they never brought out flying after the first time. There was a huge uproar about it the first time this happened, they let the cat out of the bag and there was no getting it back in.

They aren’t removing water walking as far as I know for sham/dks, they also want them to feel more special. Water walking was always a thing they did but now you don’t even need to have the professions for most of it’s perks, engineering for example, gliders/mailbox and what ever else.
Which makes having engineer almost useless, I still use rocket boots which is the only reason why and I don’t want to clutter my bags with gliders either but I could have a profession better suited to gather or craft things i’d use.

But I agree since they let the cat out of the bag I don’t think it should be removed if at all I’d rather it be available to everyone for the mount of their choice because mounts are cool but when you give up just to use the fugly water strider just for the water walking, it get’s lame that they basically force you to use it especially in zones with a lot of water.
I personally hate that they nerfed everything in m+, the angler fishing pole was amazing and I still use it in the world especially when I don’t use the water strider for short jaunts across the water. It’s actually funny running into people out in the water sometimes, you’re basically going as fast as the strider but you aren’t using it. They usually inspect you or think you’re cheating and turning into the fish is pretty cool too.
