Flying is so important to my enjoyment of wow I’m going to absolutely rush through 8.2 as fast as I possibly can just so I can unlock flying. Then after I have it I’ll go back on some alts and actually enjoy the 8.2 content.
That seems a bit backwards don’t you think? Shouldn’t I want to savor and enjoy the content the first time through? Because Blizzard treats flying like garbage I only see the 8.2 content as a means to an end. Then once I can play how I want to play only then can I go back and enjoy the content.
I hate the flying time gate more than anything else in this game.

I mean, I see where you’re coming from but it sounds like a you problem. There is nothing essential about flying. It is quite nice but it’s not essential.
I really don’t care if I can or cannot fly. It just changes which mount type I have to match with my transmog.

I still feel like Blizzard is punishing the players who enjoy flying. When flying is enabled everyone still has the option to use a ground mount. The same can’t be said for me. I’ve been dying to fly since BFA’s release. I’ve done all the exploring, WQs, loremaster, AND rep grind yet had to wait because reasons until this patch to fly.
I hate it and won’t do it again. I’ll come back about a month or so before the .2 patch if flying is going through this again.
You can say “its been like this for 3 expansions it won’t change” but its just like the wall of NO with classic servers and look where that is now.

Can’t disagree with you. Flying was always one of the best parts of this game for me.

I feel you. I just don’t personally see why it is such a massive deal to folks.
I mean, I like flying but my enjoyment of the game doesn’t hinge on it. That’s all I am really getting at.
I don’t understand why so many view it as essential is all.
Edit: It is absolutely one of my goals in the game, though.

Pathfinder is definitely my top goal, but I’m not going to rush it to the point I’m not enjoying the discovery phase of a new patch. I avoided the PTR so that I could go in more-or-less blind, so I expect to be fumbling around for a while rather than min-maxing my minutes straight out of the gate.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that I LOVE alts. Having to trudge through the same tired path to WQs for 8+ characters gets to be pure tedium. Yes the WQs themselves would get a little stale but with flying its MUCH less of a hassle to just pop over to each WQ and get it done ASAP.
It’s a freedom that almost only exists in wow. Maybe in other MMOs but I don’t play and will never play other MMOs (too much time commitment).
Wow used to be my power fantasy game where the stakes are low and I can roll through content like a steamroller on steroids. Flying goes along with that power fantasy of mine as being in total control of this HUGE world that has 20+ years of lore behind it.
Not saying this is the case for everyone but I’m trying to nail down exactly why it’s so important to me.

I just want to grind rep easier lol

I mean, that’s on Blizz though
The advent of WQs which encourage us to repeatedly grind the same content out in the world (particularly if you enjoy running alts) also increases the value of flying to the playerbase

Definitely a solid reason. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I only upkeep a handful of alts myself, and I barely do world quests unless there is a reward I need.
Suppose that is why it is less important to me.

I’m with you OP.
Rush to get Pathfinder Pt. 2 as fast as I can on my Human character so I can enjoy playing the game on my non-human alts.

One thing I’m curious about is how Blizz are planning to handle the assassin system introduced with Warmode
It seems like the simplest fix would be to disallow anybody with the assassin buff from flying, but I wonder how/if Blizz are going to tackle the issue

It’s going to work to push me away next expansion. How does an expansion sale and 11 months of sub loss constitute “working as intended”?
If that’s not what you meant I apologize.

This is an unsolveable problem. You want rewards to be “worth it” - but when they are totally worth it, the path to get them feels like it is really in the way of having fun…
I had this problem with pathfinder in Legion which honestly ruined Suramar for me and I never did Suramar on any of my 45 alts. I hated that place, yet it was designed well and pretty fun…

8.2 Priority - Not a single thing.
I am, more or less, done with BfA until the next expansion. I like to hang out in the boards just to see what is going on though.

I didn’t say anything about rewards being “worth it”. Flying should be the conduit TO the “worth it” reward not the reward itself.

I gotcha. Sometimes through forums it’s hard to tell.
