Sorry to admit, I played ALL DAY Sunday! Monday Evening the patch started and and everything froze up. The computer said it switched to 16m colors because all the memory was used up the moment I started WOW. Everything else plays fine, Raytracing program is fine. I start WOW up and boom like playing on an Ipad…
Anyone? 950 gtx vc in system w/ W7Pro?! Fiber up and down… Did wow change something in firewall proxy?

You have one of the monitor plugged into the mother board not the dedicated GPU swap the monitor to the GTX 950 and see if you issue is resolved. Or unplug the Monitor connected to the integrated GPU
First I want to say thanks for your time, a lot and are you a Blizz op?
??? I need some reasoning for taking off the onboard monitor. The card I have in the original setup said I can either have max features in one slot or split between the two and hinder performance… so I used the onboard, obviously.
can you give me a brief laymans ideal?
Having both of them plugged into the Dedicated GPU should have little to no effect on the performance. While having the monitor connected to the Integrated GPU takes away resources from the computer.
ok ill try disconnecting the monitor and see if itll load normally
well that didnt work and this nifty system REQUIRES an answer from someone else before responding
unbelievable…
I hate to disagree with green, but, where the OP has a monitor plugged in is of no consequence. They could have monitors in any port, all ports, or no ports, and that is not going to have an effect on which GPU his computer is utilizing, and as an extension, which GPU WoW will utilize.
I happen to have two monitors running off my dedicated card, but even if I took them both off and then attached just one of them to my onboard (integrated) graphics port, that wouldn’t “disable” my dedicated card. If I actually pulled the monitor off in the middle of playing WoW, it would just keep chugging along until I plugged the monitor back in.
Further, if the OP had only a single monitor plugged into the incorrect (integrated) port, and that was causing his system to only use the onboard GPU, then other games and programs the OP uses would have terrible frame rates as well.
So, the actual problem is that the incorrect GPU is being selected and utilized. In this, case, your integrated graphics. You say you have a 950 GTX, but you also have an AMD HD4250 (integrated), and my guess is that the integrated is being utilized.
Plug one monitor into the monitor port on the actual GTX card, forget everything else, and troubleshoot from there. I can’t begin to tell you if this is a WoW issue, a driver issue, a Windows issue, or what, but I can for certain say that it is not because you have a monitor plugged into an incorrect port.
Also, just as a side note, have you tried a full UI reset? I had addon issues after the patch that were causing my frame rate to tank (couldn’t top 40 fps on setting “1”, and I am usually at 100fps on setting “7”), and a full UI reset and addon updates resolved the issue.
I found that wow had the video card set to auto select. Under system\advanced\graphics card drop down.
I have multiple cards with a multi monitor set up so I selected the card that is dedicated to gaming. After this the frame rate went back to normal.
I hope this helps you with your performance problems.
Do you use weakauras? Cause I’m having issue with FPS when it’s on. And I read somewhere I’m not the only one.
The intergraded GPU takes ram away from the Computer 3.3 Gigs which gets reserved if the Integrated GPU is active.
Yes, but having a monitor plugged into an incorrect port has nothing to do with this.
You can’t be telling me that as techs, we are to assume that the OP switched around their monitor cables right at the 8.1 patch, right? Correct me if I am wrong, OP, but you didn’t do this, did you? Your monitor cables were probably in the same place after the patch as they were before the patch.
The only way the integrated GPU and its effect on the computer come into play is if the OP has only a monitor plugged into the onboard (integrated) graphics, and has that selected as their preferred GPU. You’d practically have to remove the dedicated card from the system to do this, though, because as I said before, having onboard graphics enabled or active doesn’t “disable” a dedicated card. You’ll still see it in option menus. You can even still output video from it, though if you are plugged into onboard and select dedicated, your screen will go black.
Having a monitor plugged into the onboard GPU doesn’t actually tell your computer to use the onboard GPU. It must be selected.
Can we just kinda move off the monitor thing? It’s pretty much just doing a disservice to the OP. Unless they were that silly to swap around monitor cables during the downtime between 8.0 and 8.1, and end up solely having a monitor connected to onboard graphics, this isn’t the issue.
And besides:
The game could be choosing the wrong display. SO to Remove that possibility and to restore the ram the integrated GPU is using plugging it in the GTX 950 or disconnecting it will solve both. With only 8 gigs of ram 3.3 gigs of it being used for the display could be a issue.
While it does not pertain to this thread as he is using windows 7.In a windows 10 PC a out of date integrated GPU could cause FPS issues. As windows 10 actually uses all the GPU’s that are active in the PC from rendering
This has been resolved with the latest release of WA, which was released earlier today, or yesterday.
Well, I dunno. In my opinion, this is very poor support. Half of what you said doesn’t pertain to this problem. I was the one who explained how to properly hook up a single monitor to the dedicated GPU, which is what should have been suggested in the first place.
And given the information provided by the OP (worked fine before patch, now it doesn’t work), why wouldn’t you start off with all the usual stuff, like a UI reset, scan and repair, etc.?
Jumping straight into moving monitor cables around and claiming that an outdated GPU might be slowing down his system… that’s just not clear thinking. I’d not personally try to tech a problem like that. And, I’d like to see an article or something that backs up the statement that having an old integrated GPU in your system will slow things down for games using a dedicated card.
In any case, OP said (as I quoted), that the monitor cable switch did nothing. So, now are you going to ask for the UI reset, scand and repair, driver updates, etc?
Good luck, OP.
You start with the easiest things which is basic trouble shooting and remove as many unknows as you can . I have seen this issue before with mixed GPU setups many times and wow. The game can actually use more the 4 gigs on a 64 bit OS. so having a integrated GPU reserve 3.3 gigs with only 8 gigs could be a issue.
Because the original post points to a actual memory issue.
You two are BOTH GREAT! I havent seen a wonderful argument like that in years! Great Debate, and both valid! Reminds me of when i was doing it! : )
Anyway, I guess I have to crush all my addons again, huh?
Hours of work setting the variables on those…
I want to bring a point though, My wife has W10 and no hiccup whatsoever… Her system is roughly 20% less in well everything 4c/4gm/Thdd She played fine no hiccup nothing and roughly the same Apps (Although i do have Power Auras) So If its a W7 dx11/12 thing theres gong to be some issues. One day its great the next trashed???
Thats not how to make customers happy. Especially thiose whove invested over a decade across all aves. ?! you know?
whats the fix?
