First of all, I support making twinking brackets only twinks vs. twinks. Having some twink farm guys just trying to level is not how the game was supposed to be played.
I know making brackets twink vs. twink has often killed twinking in the past, but I really think there will be enough interest in 79 twinking to make them active even if they are twink vs. twink. I say this because I know from experience on private servers that 79 twinking was hugely popular, though it’s kind of dying out now with WOTLK Classic drawing people away from private servers.
The best thing about 79 twinking is that gearing is relatively easy for most classes, and once you’re done you’re done. I have work and family to occupy my time, and I simply don’t have the time to go through the extremely time-consuming gearing process at 80.
If you’re in a similar situation, then I recommend giving twinking a hard look once WOTLK classic arrives. Most classes have pretty much all their abilities at 79 (though locks don’t have teleport) so the gameplay is basically the same as at 80. I would also add that, if you’re skilled at your class, you can kill a lot of 80s with a fully geared 79 twink. Had a lot of fun doing that in Wintergrasp on private servers, and, unlike most twinking brackets, you’re not left out of the world pvp fun.
What are you saying? They disabled the npcs who stop you from gaining xp?
If you have a problem with twinks playing other twinks then I’m not sure what your issue is - that’s fairer than a regular 70-79 leveling bg, where the higher levels have a huge edge.
Prot warriors are pretty OP at 79, but it takes a LOT of gear grinding in Sunwell to really be strong as prot. Regular arms warriors aren’t a hard matchup at all for a good hunter, which is a very strong 79 class.
I would note that ret paladins aren’t nearly as op at 79 as at 80 since they don’t have sacred shield, which is op as can be at 80 pvp. Since rets are the bane of 80 hunters, that makes up for prot warriors being op at 79.
I should have mentioned, Hunter twinks are strong against pretty much everyone else. They just can’t do ANYTHING against prot warriors. No one can, really.
I agree with that, but it just makes prot warriors the 79 versions of rets at 80. So you’re going to face op stuff at 80 as well- at least at 79 prot warriors have to put in a lot of time to gear up, which reduces their numbers a bit.
I know some people who will use free action potion against prot warriors (it’s not dispellable in wotlk), saying it’s ok to use an op potion to counter an op spec. I personally just take the loss 1v1 - not a fan of FAP.
Correct me if I’m wrong (don’t follow TBC Classic twinking), but this issue has already been resolved by Blizzard against your position- by my understanding twinks only face twinks in bgs in Classic. I see no reason why Blizzard would change this position for WOTLK Classic, nor should they in my view.
I’m confident that 79 twinking has so many advantages that bgs will still pop even if the games are only twink vs. twink. One advantage I forgot to mention is that 79s can buy level 80 pvp gear with the honor they farm at 79. As a result, a lot of people on private servers would just play the 79 bracket for a while in order to gear up for 80. Beats queueing for bgs as a fresh 80 in quest greens.
You’re also incorrect on 79 twinking requiring a lot of gearing. That is only true for a few specs like prot warrior. The vast majority of specs can be very competitive in bgs using only the crafted level 78 pvp gear that anyone can buy on the auction house.
Those 79 twinks who like to one shot lowbies can always do so by hanging out in the Borean Tundra or wherever, and leave the 79 bgs to those of us who want competitive games. By my understanding, you really have no choice in the matter since Blizzard has already decided this issue against your position, correctly in my view.

I’m planning on having a Level 79 Dorfadin and Belfadin for AOE grinding. I usually play healers, but I think dual-speccing Protection and Retribution would be more fun (LOL DIVINE STORM LOL).
The crafted PVP gear plus the Deranged War Axe and … the 2H sword from CoStratholme … makes gearing so easy.
I think 79 twinking will be used for dungeon boosting as well. Currently solo dungeon farming seems to be fairly good exp on beta, and obviously there’s going to be new limits in place to combat boosting (where exp is reduced with higher level discrepancies/etc).
But, hopefully at least, a 79 can group with a level 70 (more so to help guildies / etc) but that should allow 79 twinks to be able to efficiently do trash farms for experience for lower levels
No, in WOTLK stopping your XP with those npcs stops all experience gain. You can quest, dungeon, whatever - you won’t gain any xp. I’ve done 79 twinking on three different WOTLK private servers so I think you can assume I know what I’m talking about.
