66k HPS Blood DK...How?!

hey guys, I was checking “word of warcraft logs”, and I saw this guy in 1st place tank healing with 66k hps… the second position is with 49k HPS, the gap is to big, what happened there?! How is that even possible?

(for some reason i can’t add links, but it’s champion of light fight, the guy is Fallenyj)
He is even in the top 10 healing if you consider all classes, among the actual healers.

I’m shocked, 66k HPS is too much, am I missing anything? =0

read the tool tip on deathstrike.

how does that explain the gap grom first to second place?
The second place is also a BDK and made something like 44k hps, thats a 50% extra HPS gap, from first to second place. 50% difference is like insane.

the difference is irrelevant, they are going to heal based on the damage taken. if you hit DS after every boss hit, you will have a lot of healing, add in factors like blood’s talents, cds, azerite traits, and versatility and you can get a lot of self healing. i would also check to see if absorbs and shields are being counted.

The difference is not irrelevant, there was thousands of parses, and this single guy made the numbers wayyyyyyyyyyy bigger than every other Blood DK, that’s my question, how?
In every other scenario, the difference between first and second is usually 1-2k dps dps or 1-2k hps

I’m missing some kinda of shenanigan here

circumstances. the stars can align on procs, or he is going with a HPS centric build. long time mains tend to pull wayyyyyyyyy bigger numbers than FOTM rerolls and mutli-class players anyway, i wouldn’t sweat an extreme.

Consider it as a normal thing to do.
The red target in the ground is round.
If you normally place it toward you the target gets more of the effect. I tend to place it so they are on the edge and any advance it slows them and “heals me”, the opposite effect will happen as well. Pallys should also be the same way, but are forced to put it center, then move…

Its just padding honestly. He probably was intentionally going for a parse so he took big damage and healed it up repeatedly. Its not like he heals 66K sustained every time he definitely was trying to pad that

  • Death Strike heals for a percentage of damage taken. If you take lots of damage, you heal lots. The 66k HPS guy solo tanked the encounter, while the 49k HPS guy 2 tanked the encounter. The 66k HPS guy therefore had both the big add and the boss on him for the entire fight, where the 49k HPS guy didn’t.
  • Similarly to the above, hitting more targets with Blood Boil stacks up Hemostasis, increasing Death Strike healing. 66k HPS guy had one additional target to hit due to solo tanking.
  • Different encounter durations lend to different cooldown uptime. They both use Vamp Blood once, but because the 66k HPS guy’s encounter duration was 1:26 while the other guy’s encounter duration was 2:04, he had higher uptime on cooldowns.
  • 66k HPS guy had a Holy Priest cast Guardian Spirit on him, further increasing his self healing done.
  • 66k HPS guy had 2 healers, while 49k HPS guy had 4. There’s more overhealing/sniping going on with more healers.
  • Will of the Necropolis counts as healing in WCL. 49k HPS guy had ~3730 HPS from it, while 66k HPS guy had ~6550 HPS from it. Keeping a BDK at dangerous levels of health is a great way to increase his HPS.
  • 66k HPS guy has a wider assortment of healing procs/trinkets. He also used a Healthstone, however 49k HPS guy used a 2nd AMS.

I can keep going. However, yes, it’s mostly just padding.

This is very easy to explain…
Total Fight Length = 1 min 20 seconds on a Mythic Boss Encounter…

Blood DK was single Tanking so had all adds and boss.

During that short kill window he used DeathStrike 15 times and his average was only doing 13.5K Damage but the key point here is healing from those 15 Death Strikes on Average they healed for 160K per strike so because he was a single tank and the amount of damage he takes in the damage to heal ratio of the death strike is so high the heal he receives is also incredibly high.

This isn’t uncommon when you have a Blood DK have a huge heal from a DS it’s just the fight was so quick that he had pots and lust etc for a large portion of the total encounter.

It’s that simple also he was 415 ilvl at the time.

It’s not unusual at all to see high healing numbers for blood death knights. Death Strike heals based on damage recently taken with a minimum of a percentage of your max health. This can be increased further with talents, versatility, and mastery if you include the shield added afterwords. Bonestorm also heals you for a percentage of your max health per target hit every proc. It’s still very strong both offensively and defensively even after the nerfs. Combined with the passive Veteran of the Third War which increases your stamina/hp rather than armor like most other tanks, these percentage of health lost or percentage of max health heals are super effective.

In mythic dungeons, often times I will be healing myself close to 50% more than the healer is healing the whole group overall. And in raids, I often beat a couple healers in overall healing just in self healing.

What death knights lack in mobility that tanks like demon hunters, paladins, and warriors have, we excell in self preservation. We have more health but less armor so we take damage easier, but because of the way death strike works, we have no trouble healing it back.

Easy.

First person likely tanked more often so could heal more often and certainly has a much much better grasp on how to use death strike effectively than the second tank.

Meph he was the only tank for a Mythic raid encounter… the guild used only 1 tank to kill the boss in under 1 min 30 seconds

Then yes, his DS parse would absolutely insane. That’s not super surprising to see those kinds of numbers then.

Exactly along with the Heroism/Bloodlust, Pre-pot, second Pot he took he had an average of 160K per deathstrike in heals the largest heal was 310K… haha

That being said what are your thoughts on the potential interaction for Blood DK with these two traits potentially in 8.2 —

  1. The first one is Burning Embrace if this stacks as it likely will with Maximum health boosts it will work in with Blood using Vampiric with 10 stacks of the lesser and maybe using another on use max health trinket from pvp to make the AOE damage Crazy damage… I think you’d be looking at AoE of maybe 70K to 100K potentially?

Burning Embrace (Rank 3)
Quality: EpicInstant 2 min cooldown
Major Power : Burn enemies with the essence of the own life, sacrificing 10% of your maximum health to deal Fire damage to all nearby enemies equal to that amount.

Heal for 10% of your maximum heal per enemy hit, up to a maximum of 50% of maximum health. Minor Power : Infuse yourself with burning embrace, increasing your maximum health by 3,430 every 4 sec, stacking up to 15 times.

This effect is lost if you fall below 35% health.

  1. The second one is this which technically could stack with our AMS, Runic Barrier and Talent to be a really massive Spell Wall…

Null Dynamo (Rank 3)
Quality: EpicInstant 2.3 min cooldown
Major Power : Gain an empowered Null Barrier, absorbing 174,235 magic damage for 10 sec, and instantly remove all harmful Magic, Curse, Poison, and Disease effects on you. Minor Power : Every 15 sec, gain a Null Barrier, absorbing the next 34,684 magic damage you take for 10 sec.

When Null Barrier expires, it implodes, dealing Shadow damage equal to the total amount absorbed, divided among all nearby enemies.

The first will be probably taken more often if you ask me. The potential aoe damage and healing is just too good to pass up. The unfortunate part is that I don’t think it will do much, if anything, to bridge the gap between us and stronger dps tanks like pally or war. In fact, it covers up one of the biggest weakness of warrior which is their self healing.

The second one is good for things like reaping but that’s why you have a healer, to dispel reaping stacks off you. It will be taken on some raid bosses for sure though and I could see on some tyrannical week dungeons possibly but the aoe one is just too good for m+.

That was very similar to my own thoughts although I did consider that it is viable and highly likely that if an Encounter is in a raid that is similar to King Rasta in BoD it will be an encounter which a Blood DK could solo a phase just like they can on Phase 2 of Rasta for both Normal and Heroic, not sure about Mythic but I would assume it’s viable?

I really didn’t see anything that jumped out as anything spectacular for Blood. The stacking Vers one maybe okay as well but again will be superior on other tanks if Blood DK damage isn’t improved to be at least somewhere on par with the crazy damage of Warriors etc.

The thing that scared me the most was the Paladin Class one for Protection that I just have no words for:

Vision of Perfection (Rank 3)
Quality: EpicPassive
Major Power : Your spells and abilities have a chance to activate Avenging Wrath for 8.0 sec.

When the Vision of Perfection activates, the cooldown of Avenging Wrath is reduced by 15%. Minor Power : Reduces the cooldown of Avenging Wrath by 16.5% and increases your Versatility by 419.

When you activate Avenging Wrath, immediately heal for 5% of maximum health.

I don’t have a link atm to all the powers that have been released, please hook me up if you have one handy. But yes this one is very very powerful for both damage and sustain (assuming it activates the new wings ability where you get a crit on your LoP). Even if it doesn’t activate the free crit on LoP the extra damage and healing from regular wings and reduced CD on Wings will be big.

I don’t know if it will be enough to change to Righteous Protector instead of Seraphim but maybe if the proc rate is high enough. Having two things reducing the overall CD of wings plus random mini wings could give some insane uptime on it.

Hopefully this will work for you

This is actually a generic tank one, Just replace Avenging Wrath with a comparable CD for the tank. I believe the DK ability modified by it is Vamp Blood (not Dancing Rune Weapon for some reason).
