As the title says, would this be worth the upgrade for WOW? or should I just save up and eventually move to AM5?
I have a RTX 2070 for reference and play at 4K on a 60hz refresh, will be upgrading monitor hopefully this black friday to a 4k 144hz

YES absolutely a 5700X would be a huge improvement
that said, the 9800X3D is even MORE powerful, so it is up to you if $200 upgrade (substantial) is more efficient of your funds than a $800+ platform upgrade (next gen)
The move to an X3D CPU would be massive, even if just the 5700X3D. I upgraded my AM4 system twice. I started with a 3900X, upgraded to a 5900X, then to a 5800X3D. The upgrade from the 5900X to the 5800X3D was a FAR bigger upgrade than the upgrade from the 3900X to 5900X. WoW benefits from the 3D cache more than almost any other game.
The question of whether to go with a 5700X3D or spend a lot more and move to AM5 really comes down to budget. If you are going to keep your existing system for another year or more, then I do think that the 5700X3D would be an easy choice.
On the other-hand, if you are going to spend more, the new 9800X3D looks to be quite exceptional. Unlike the older X3D CPUs, the 9800X3D now puts the 3D cache on the bottom of the cores rather than the top. Having the cache on the top of the cores, as the older X3D CPUs did, causes it to act as an insulating layer, blocking efficient heat transfer away from the cores. That is why they are clocked lower than their non-X3D counterparts. With the cache now on the bottom, the 9800X3D can be clocked just as high as it’s non-X3D counterparts. So you not only have the generational performance increase, you also have the performance increase from the higher clockspeed. I made sure that I was right there at 6am so that I could get mine before the scalpers got them all. I got my order in thankfully, but they sold out in about 3 minutes.
Personally, I’d recommend going for AM5 if you can save. If it’s not a reasonable option, the 5700X3D will be huge for WoW. In the time to save up, the 7800X3D and 9800X3D could both drop in price.
Friend of mine went from a 5900X to a 5700X3D and was surprised about how big it was in this game.
100% Correct
This is a cpu-based game which means that it’s highly dependent on CPU choice and RAM speed. Wow drinks up Rams speed like water in the desert
With the X3D CPU however your RAM speed means next to nothing. It’s all very technical but it’s mainly due to how the CPU processes and instructions and how quickly it does so. It also helps eliminate latency. This is the biggest advantage to choosing one of the x3D CPUs
