56003XD Upgrade

I am considering a CPU upgrade for my socket AM4 platform. As things are, I am running a Ryzen 5 2600. I’ve no complaints, but it has been a few years.
On paper, a Ryzen 5 56003XD would be an upgrade for my aging-dead-end system. I wonder though, would it be a worth-while upgrade? any thoughts?
I have a Nvidia GeForce GTX1660 Super GPU, and play at 1920x1080p, with pretty high settings, some of which I honestly don’t understand.
If I do upgrade the cpu, perhaps the gpu will then be outpaced. Maybe, but one thing at a time.

The 5600x3d will be a pretty good upgrade,
Was going to recommend you make the jump up to the 5800x3d, but Microcenter bumped it back up to $320.

I’d recommend you upgrade if you have to otherwise set money aside until you really need to.

If the 2600 is making the gameplay for you really unplayable and you need one now, sure grab the 5600x3d, otherwise wait. Just verify with your motherboard manufacturer to get the BIOS that can run the 5600x3d.

Go for it. WoW loves X3D CPUs so much that the 5800X3D easily beats a 13900k as well as all of the non-3D cache AM5 cpus. I personally went from a 3900x to a 5900x to a 5800X3D on the same motherboard. The jump from the 5900X to the 5800X3D was bigger than the jump from the 3900X to the 5900X despite the 5900X and 5800X3D being from the same generation. That’s how much WoW loves the extra cache.

Make sure your bios is updated to handle the X3D CPUs. Given that WoW uses so few cores, there shouldn’t be much difference between a 5800X3D and a 5600X3D.

You should upgrade your GPU eventually also, but WoW will bottleneck your CPU far more often than your GPU (especially in big cities, epic BGs, and raids). Also, the video settings can be adjusted down which mainly takes the load off the GPU. There isn’t much you can adjust to reduce the load on the CPU, so it does make sense to upgrade your CPU first.

The fact that you can drop an X3D CPU into your existing motherboard makes it a no-brainer. It’s rare to even have the option to make such a massive CPU upgrade without doing a full new build.

With a Bios Flash, what I have will work with my new CPU, the 5600X3D. Except maybe the PSU… NP, I’m running on a old 400 watt gotitfromsomewhere, I need to change this before I make the CPU switch. I didn’t see anything in your replies to dissuade me, so I bought the chip! Had to drive to Virginia, sold in-store only. I was headed that way anyways. Nice Store! Micro Center.
