I’m currently sitting in the front row for Cho’s Storytime, with my camera set back to about the 3rd row, looking straight forward so Cho’s on the far left, his speech bubble cut off.
So why is his voice coming from the Rear Right speaker? My speakers are all hooked up properly. Set to 5.1.
Reverb on, reverb off, distance filter on, distance filter off, Sonic for Windows on, Sonic for Windows off, it doesn’t change anything. Someone behind me on the left comes out the center speaker, front left comes out rear right, direct right comes out rear left. Someone right in front of you is muffled, while someone behind you is clear as day.
Searching, I’ve found SOOOO many posts about this issue, but they’re all abandoned with no solution.
If there are sound issues built into the game, you’ll need to report them to devs in Bug Report. The tech support forum serves as an area for players to assist other players.
I’ve updated my sound driver to the most recent directly from the chipset manufacturer. I’ve downgraded the audio to the lowest quality in Windows, with Effects on and Effects off. I’ve upgraded the audio to the highest quality, Effects on, Effects off.
Every switch I made I changed my sound device in WoW between Default and the Speakers themselves. Absolutely no change. Things right in front of me are quiet, while things right behind me are loud. And the directions the sounds come from are wrong.
I put in a ticket, and they tell me to post on the forums for help from other users. There I’m told to post in Bug Reports.
Nowhere do I get any advice on this, so either I’m the only person using a 5.1 speaker setup with a 5.1 capable on-board audio, or I’m the only one to ever have this issue.
And it’s rather irritating to turn your camera only to go deaf from a water fall that was a little quiet suddenly blast out of your speakers.
Developers monitor that forum. They don’t respond to posts unless they need more info.
There’s a thread talking about a similar situation: Directional Sound
… but nothing else in the last year to my knowledge.
