50% exp is slower than 20% exp by about 8 minutes for 111-120 (graph and numbers inside)

In no case ever should it be easier to level without heirlooms than with. The 111 - 120 is broken with heirlooms, it’s very obvious to any of us with large amounts of experience. This thread was good because now we have data and evidence instead of those of us knowledgeable, merely shouting in anger and frustration at a clearly borked system. How you, personally, level I cannot say, but I do it by questing. However, no matter what way anyone levels it should NEVER be slower with heirlooms than without.

That’s the key statement. Heirlooms are like a “I put the work in” achievement; they cost a decent amount of gold(and other small requirements).

They are sold as a leveling time decrease. Using them should never slow down your leveling when all other things are equal

Anyone trying to rationalize that away has some other agenda.( trying to be a blue apologist; or trying to do away with them.)

They are sold as a leveling time decrease. For levels 1-110; they ARE a leveling decrease. Are they a leveling decrease for levels 110-120? No. Wearing fewer of them is faster.”

So with heirloom swapping and a huge amount of mistakes because I’ve been sleep deprived. We had a 45 minute difference between wearing all heirlooms, and heirloom swapping. 4:48 vs 5:33 and a 36 minute difference against wearing azerite. Now I made a few mistakes and I’m sure that difference could probably be dropped to an hour. For heirlooms vs swapping. The problem is heirloom swapping is a pain in the butt to remember to do. Makes the experience really miserable.

How do you level your toons? The only way I could see to not have the investment in heirlooms be a loss was to level with IEs, which wasn’t too bad.

Almost exclusively through BG’s and daily quests.

If as far as leveling design goes, when 20% is faster or greater than 50% someone’s math is a little off.

Thanks for showing us your results! I have been wondering about this exact thing. I have 7 120s now with 6 more 110s to level and a 45 hunter =). But you are a leveling machine! GL and thank you again.

This.

No one wants to do this, it’s terrible

I’m starting to think that BFA was rushed, and now the patches have to deal with undoing / modifying the rushed bits.

Upgrading heirlooms is another one of those rushed/‘not fully thought out’ ideas, and we’re going to have to wait for a patch to fix them.

I usually only level alts during TWing week because it “seems” to be more beneficial for exp gains. Id be curious to see a 110-120 in heirlooms vs 110-120 in non heirlooms just doing TW dungeons. Obviously waiting around for a queue would skew the numbers but Id like to see the exp per hour while just running the dungeons.

And also with 2 legendaries too. I believe they will work from 110-120 while in TWing dungeons because you are scaled to 85? I dont think Ive ever even looked at this while in a TW dungeon tbh.

Well, they did not mention anything about heirlooms as far as I can tell, regarding the next patch. How disappointing.

I got pissed last night. Though I had mine on, wasn’t paying attention and…blew at least 24K xp out my butt. Sigh…Was one of the cases of 5/6 turns all in the same area.

I tried with feral druid to keep them on. Its not happening not at 117. I need my traits the my attacks/bleeds. It just gets so much longer in the looms traitless for me. And I spam my self heal way more often.

Yeah. This was super disappointing. Was there really so much broken in 8.0/8.1 that this didn’t make the fix list?

They are busy selling store mounts to care about the health of their current game. Fixing leveling, heirlooms and classes should be top priority…

these won’t get fixed…

You will get some who say I run them fine. Assuming not trolling they probably are on classes like tanks or a BM hunter.

I am sure if leveling a Vengeance DH I could wear these full time. As long as I keep swinging away I will always have my HP fixes to eat up lol.

BM hunter…I have leveled them a few hours drunk AF quite a few times. I leveled fine as hunter is to be expected. You can’t level a hunter wrong really. Well you can I guess. If you try really hard to do it.

The person who ran these tests did it with a warrior. The point is, that blizzard established what heirlooms were, something that helps reduce level times for people who already put their time in leveling.

For level 1-110 they do that. Blizzard announced they were add upgrades to get to 120. People buy those upgrades, expecting the same experience they had previously.

They were mislead/cheated. It’s not faster to level with heirlooms. it’s faster to level without them.

If they are not going to get fixed, then at least blizzard should note that these are not the best items for leveling more quickly for levels 110-120

I think heirlooms should be a legacy reward for veteran players. Nothing wrong with having gold sinks in the game but you are right they need to buff them if they intend for heirloom upgrades to be upgrades and a gold sink. Or else just give them out as a veteran reward no additional costs if nothing else changes.

I only bought 111-120 heirloom gear just for timewalking. I kind already expected, that just by looking at the giant leap instats that the xp wouldnt worth it.

I have 31 level 110s that I need to level to 120. Okay, I’ve done 10 already and have 21 more to go. I am not going to do all 21 in one week. I have NO PROBLEM waiting 3 weeks for timewalking, and doing 2 of them each timewalking week.

Don’t fall into the forum trap, thinking “everybody is exactly like me”. That is why this thread (and your posts in it) are so valuable. Instead of saying “if you are exactly like me, heirlooms aren’t worthwhile” you give real data, which is useful to everyone – even people so different from you that heirlooms are useful to them.

I thought they were. I didn’t get any heirlooms until I had a character around 80 and making some decent gold. I couldn’t afford them before that.

Recently I upgraded the “bonus XP heirlooms” from 110 max to 120 max, for all 4 armor types. It cost me 115k gold – and I already HAD the heirlooms at 110. Isn’t that a gold sink?
