I used Spyragos, Wicker pup and Bumbles.
I actually messed up with Spyragos with not having Chain Lightning up, still got through though, so, all good!
I have used the same rotation. Winning is almost purely by luck of you driting and them not. and like you said. If you die after them, they will still win.
even more dumb is they only allow certain pets. Who ever designed this quest eats bananas sideways!
this is the same for me, have 4 orbs. win pet battle and no quest
Gizmo the Pure is one of that you missed and is very good for the battle because of stench, and you get him from getting the detective title.
Jenafur is much easier to get than you think, and Spyragos only took me a few hours. Baal is a slog because of the need to get uuna, fully unlock her, and then deal with the full unlock for baal. However, i liked his quest a lot and was shocked at all the hidden areas that are all over BFA content.
