4th Generation Deathknight questions

I have some questions about 4th generation Deathknights,

Supposedly they are ‘weaker’ than third generation Deathknights raised by Arthas, I vaguely believe that if Bolvar was the individual who raised them and not Darion, Do we know if Darion raised any of the Damned of his own accord in the past? possibly using the Blades of the Fallen Prince or other Artifacts as a substitute for Frostmourne?

Seccondly, do the Fourth generation deathknights still suffer from ‘The Eternal Hunger’, the compulsion to torture and butcher creatures to air quotes ‘feed’ off of their suffering, I have had multiple people claim that they do not, However, I have yet have anyone provide a source to this claim, ‘is’ there a source to this, or is this just a ‘Trust me Bro’ claim?

It is rare for the prior generation to not look at the younger ones and lament about how much better they or their parent’s generation was. That’s about all I have to say about that.

This is something that the Arthus generation most notably had and was something he intentionally inflicted on them. I believe it’s mentioned in one of the DK starting zone quests or maybe one of the books, it’s been a while since I ran that quest.

The thing is it’s rarely mentioned and after WoLK, and I’m not even sure it’s mentioned during that expansion beyond the DK starting zone, just seems to be memory holed leaving it the domain of the fans to decide for themselves.

To my knowledge, there is no official source in game or otherwise that compares the power level of Death Knights by generation. Indeed, the fixation of separating Death Knights by generation is perhaps exclusively an act of the fandom.

There is also no official source detailing the specifics of new Death Knights, including whether or not they possess the Eternal Hunger; at least as far as I know. I suppose that story We Ride Forth might include something, as it involves the Four Horsemen, but I doubt it.

I do know that the Legion PC had the ability to raise more DKs, as did the Horsemen.

And the short story ‘We Ride Forth’ also spoke of the 4th as having the Eternal Hunger, and that’s how I played mine, even though he retained a little more of himself.

They were weaker because they tended to be fairly mass-raised and not really taught their new abilities… supposed to just rely on whatever old ones they had.
