45sec Interrupt Cooldown...?

This is by no means new, but I was hoping someone could explain to me why in the dairy queen’s garden does it make sense to give a dps spec with surprisingly low 5 man utility a 45 sec cd?!?!?!

Because it’s not an interrupt, it’s a silence. That’s not defending shadow’s current position regarding dungeon utility AT ALL, but they are two very different things, and denying an enemy in PvP the ability to cast at all for 5 seconds is definitely worth the 45 second cooldown.

Silence is a spell shadow has had for a very very long time, it’s pretty iconic to their toolkit overall, and I don’t see any reason why this should be changed.

Shadow’s current position regarding 5man utility, and therefor M+ viability, that on the other hand is a disgrace, and if M+ is to continue to be a core part of expansion content going forward, then dungeon utility in general is going to need to be looked at across the board, not just for shadow.

This was well said! Thank you.

However it’s only 4 seconds, and obviously the silence only applies in pvp. So then if we look at pve it’s still only 4 secs and only locks the target out of the school of magic the spell came from. Shamans, including resto, have a 12 sec interrupt that locks them out for 3 secs… Talented we can bring it to a hefty 30 sec CD but hardly worth it when considering you have to give up Mind Bomb and an aoe stun for it… If it were me I’d move the entire silence ability to the pvp talent section. Add a 30 sec interrupt baseline and apply the current talent “Last Word” to it.

So your choices in the level 60 tier are:

  1. 45s aoe stun
  2. 30s aoe disorient or
  3. a 15 sec interrupt as a ranged spellcaster.

Those are interesting choices imo. I suppose an argument could be made that shadow having two interrupts is OP but correct me if I’m wrong but they need something. Perhaps the aoe talent just replaces the baseline 30s interrupt when chosen and in pvp content…

This would all make sense if shadow priest brought an overwhelming amount of utility but they don’t. I know that M+ is new and they are working through things. I’m a patient man. I just have a hard time looking at this and being like yeah, sound logic.

Just some thoughts.

Mind bomb is not an AOE stun anymore, it’s an AOE disorient (so beaks with damage) and also replaces Psychic Scream. Psychic Horror is single target, there’s no AOE stun.

I agree with you that it’s certainly a disparity. And changing the cooldown reduction talent into something that turns Silence into a more interrupt like ability with a more interrupt like cooldown would certainly be a start.

The thing is, it’s just a start. I think the problem of class / spec utility is much bigger than just us, and fixing it requires a lot more than just tossing a few bones to those less fortunate.

I appreciate your participation for sure. Yes Holymonky, I had that wrong. Thank you for the correction. Doesn’t change my post though. Still would be a more interesting choices.

These are just ideas and the more we talk about them, I believe will help in the long run. More often then not I hear the devs talking about credible feedback that they look into. That is what I wanted to start here. I love yall

Boomkin’s similar skill is on a 1min CD.

Syridis, you gotta know those two abilities are far from similar.

Single target silence on 45 sec CD and aoe silence on 1 min CD.
Just because both are used as interupts in PVE doesn’t mean these silences should be compared to interupts because they’re not the same.
