There are abilities from Cata going into this season. I don’t think its that crazy of a thing to put in 40 yard nameplates at this point. Its such a huge improvement to ranged classes ui experience.
Can’t agree more.
but keep nameplates the same range for players imo otherwise hiding round corners is useless
I’d be fine with that but if its not something they can do and it comes down to all or nothing, personally, there are so many facets of game play 40yd nameplates will improve that I’d be willing to give up hiding around a corner for that.
I am not, nor have I ever been, an #nochanges advocate but I absolutely do think it’s important to exercise caution in order to preserve what makes the Vanilla version of the game so compelling to folks. On the surface, small changes like this don’t really seem like they would do any harm and I’m actually 100% on board with 40 yard nameplates in SoD, even in Classic Era.
However, I think it’s also always a good idea to examine the other side here.
Does anybody feel like a 20 yard nameplate range offers anything meaningful to the Classic experience in a way that makes the game stand out against later versions that have an increased range? If so, please elaborate on the value you think this brings!
Thanks
Reducing view distance to break the Spy addon was one of the laziest things Blizz has ever done.
41 yard nameplates would be a great change, so long as they do it correctly this time. In tbc classic and wrath classic, the nameplates are actually only ~39 yards, even though the setting shows 41.
For SoD or cata or any later game modes, 40+ yard nameplates seems fine if people want it.
But I think for Era, it’s better to leave it how it is, capped at 20 yards. If for no other reason than to be leaving it as the original game devs intended. Players aren’t necessarily supposed to have hyper-awareness of peripheral enemy HP outside of 20 yards.
Particularly in battlegrounds like WSG and Alterac Valley, where hiding around terrain/objects outside of 20 yards is a key strategy of pvp gameplay, increasing nameplate range would make encounters a lot more disadvantaged for ranged clothies like mages and warlocks that rely on some distance enabling a soft-element of surprise.
It was never capped at 20 in Vanilla.
That happened in Classic Vanilla because of the PvP addon Spy.
The devs were too chicken to break the addon, so they reduced our view distance.
Agreed, let’s see it Blizz!
Yes please. This is way overdue. We had 41 yards at classic launch via script, then they took it away. Please bring it back.
Signed. Needs to happen.
I can understand it for Era. SOD is a different story for sure though like you said.
Priests can have a 41 yard smite in classic.
This makes no sense tbh, just hide behind corners a bit further than before if that’s your thing?
It’s a net positive for all classes in pvp gaining 41y nameplates outside of wanting to hide in a bush for some obscure reason (not gonna say cowardice) but hey, you do you. Just do it a bit further than you used to do it and there’s no issue.
They kept nameplate distance for the antiquated nostalgic feel that Classic was intended to have. No reason to cling to 20 yd nameplates, spell batching or leeway.
I can definitely agree with that!
why ?
you saw in classic release WPvP happening and before the nameplate change people could completely avoid a gank from the nameplates essentially ‘wallhacking’ the enemy location and it was quickly changed after players complained about it.
This will affect the intended Ashenvale PvP massively when groups can see you from 40yards away.
Al for 40 yards for mobs tho.
It has nothing to do with this, it was ~40 yards but they changed it to 20 to break Spy.
I like that idea, take all the damn runes out but put in 41 yard nameplate range.
