4-set, 2-set, 0-set tier?

Hi all,

Trying to learn the decision process one should use when deciding between having a 4/2/0-set for tier in PVP.

I imagine that top players with a lot of time to do research will actually go out and try out the different set effects and see which ones contribute or feel better, but this is impacted by subjective experience/bias. Is there a good method to do this analytically?

I have seen some analysis of single-target DPS using 0/2/4-set in PVE. Is this a good starting point?

An interesting conclusion from the PVE stuff I saw is that it is pretty much always the case that going from 0->2->4-set is a DPS increase, even considering the non-ideal stat distribution you may get from the tier pieces. Given this, isn’t it natural to believe that for most classes, having the 4-set would be the preferred route even in PVP? The exceptions would be where the 4-set bonuses are applicable only to skills/abilities that are not commonly used in PVP (e.g. long cast-time abilities).

Want to see how other people approach this (besides blindly copying murlok.io).

Thanks.

It’s really just a matter of how well the bonus syncs up with how your spec plays in PVP as well as what secondaries are lost to acquire it. Is a 2% bonus worth wearing a crit heavy piece? Perhaps not.

Oh yes, good point about crit being nerfed in PVP, which should be taken into account when comparing vs PVE charts. Afaik the pure single-target DPS charts for PVE (which again show a benefit for all specs for going from 0->2->4-set tier) are implicitly accounting for the loss in preferred secondaries (at least versus non-tier, but presumably not versus crafted gear).
