4 options for casual PVP, in current state

With this direction WoW has taken in regards to PVP, in relation to how there gearing process has made (eliminating casuals from non rated gaming):

  1. Constant re-rolling of characters to help remove some of the gearing problem created as twinks have been reduced but not gone.

  2. Be a/ feel like a less helpful (insert a more representative word) team member and hope for a carry/pay for a carry in rated.

  3. Grind daily in regular BGs until end season where you may have accumulated the gear to actually be impactful (sometimes earlier but burn out has a significantly high chance).

  4. Quit caring. Dabble in pvp, find other content in the game or quit the game all together and hope for improvements next patch, or just move on to a pvp based game you enjoy.

There is so much sadness in regards to the state of the game, from new to old players. WoD was bad yes but at that time you just had a lot of people upset but there was a good size of the media that maintained to critique or wait it out. This time around they are jumping ship. Marketing, changes to the game, the insight to make both the casual and hardcore feel appreciated needs to be on point and the current direction doesn’t feel that way.
Covid cannot be blamed for direction. Lower content and less graphical increases maybe, but direction is not.

If you have more to add to the list it would be interesting to hear.

Ive pretty much stopped doing pvp. The gearing system is so bad.

Korthia gearing is the best long term gearing until you can start to piece together a conquest set.

I know that honor gear is a huge waste of time but many players do not know this.

you forgot partysync. i suggest 40-49 and 51-59.

Except its really not because you HAVE To have vers gear to pvp, no exceptions, and even the vers gear from korthia at 220, a lot of the times is worse then the 216 gear.

To OPs point, as it stands right now, if you are not sitting in rival gear from last season, your only real option here is to, each week, yolo your 1400 win, cap your 3 vaults from pvp honor in rated BG, and cap your conquest and just wait to get more conquest gear.
New players this season are royally screwed, the mmr is so busted right now, and the only way to get past it, is to wait it out and not play out side of capping your numbers.

I’m currently taking a break from pvp and doing the Korthia thing myself. Bought a BOE along the way too. I didn’t bother with a legendary this expansion though because I can’t stand the thought of grinding Torghast.

The extra HP gained from 220 gear is more valuable and also you are looking at 18% versa in 220 gear. Korthia gear will eventually be 233 gear as well.

Well again, that really depends, on how much more vers the pvp gear has. There is a very good reason why most groups require like 25% vers minimum Its reducing damage done to you, which damage reduction is effectively more HP

The groups that ask for 25% versa assume you are fully geared with conquest from last season.

But for players that want to start up this season they are not going to hit 25% versa so easily.

…no they are not, i literally only have 2 conquest items and the rest is a mix of honor and pve gear and im at 25%
If you are in full rival from last year you are pushing 30%+ vers dude.

Which here is a spoiler even with 25% vers thats still considered pretty low.

Of course it is low but we are talking bout starting PVP gearing for casual players.

This. The extra HP ends up being more valuable. Versatility alone will not make up for that.

I dont think you are understanding, thats the problem.

If you are starting pvp this season, you are royally screwed, because anyone who hit 1800 last season, is already running around in full 220 gear, which then upgrades to 233 gear in pvp.
So the best a new player can get, is around 220, vs people who are runing around at 233+, thats not a even fight, thats so horribly skewed, thats any one who was even close to top in pvp just 1800 last season able to now curb stop most of the players this season. The gear discrepancy this season is HORRIBLE.

…yes it will, there is reason why every single group ever, for rbgs, asks for your vers not your HP. I have WAY more HP in my pve gear, but taht does not mean anything if i dont have vers to go with it.

Vers is king in pvp because of the trinkets as well, with you have both of them you get 40% more vers from your gear when in pvp which is giving you a bonus to the damage aspect provided by vers. So no only do you get more effective HP through ver, because its damage reduction %, you also get more damage from it because of the 2 set bouns of the trinkets.
do you see why vers is far more important now?

Not true, last season’s gear does not get the ilvl boost in pvp.

Ok well fair even still you have people runing around in 220 gear designed for pvp, heavy vers statted, against people who are new who are either oging to be in at most 213 gear vs 220 pve gear which has a lot less vers.

We are seeing it constantly right now, anyone coming into pvp new is getting dumpstered right now.

this is part of the learning process of gitting gud

There is learning curve then there is “Why are 1600 matches this sweetty and why are these teams rated at 1.3k doing 1.3m+ dps with all of their DPSers”

just line the 260 ilvl glads in the 1400 bracket dewd

Option 5: Play RBGs.
