4% Avoidance?

Have we seen the statistics for frost and arcane deaths? This is not nearly enough imo, especially considering barrier is getting nerfed. Need more than this for arcane/frost or please consider giving cauterize to all mage specs.

Not only isn’t it enough it’s entirely the wrong sort of buff. The overwhelming majority of deaths are due to rot damage, particularly bleeds. Avoidance does nothing to address that.

How the hell is getting an extra charge with no downsides a nerf?

“Improved Prismatic Barrier has been updated – Now grants an additional charge of Prismatic Barrier, in addition to its previous bonuses.”

It was removed from Frost and given to Arcane. Frost ate the nerf.

I cant say for Frost, but Arcane is eating good. We’re getting all the shield perks and talents with it, which means much more uptime and utility against magic damage and harmful effects. The 5‑second refund for the shield wasn’t amazing with only one charge, but with two rotating charges it actually becomes valuable. (Hopefully recasting/refreshing will trigger this)

If we talent into the snare removal, that’s another tool we can use. It made a big difference several times this season—not just because of the snare, but the extra damage attached to the snares. And with every class getting an HP increase, our shield will scale even better.

I’m not thrilled about the extra global, but the strength it brings is more than just a single HP boost.

Doesn’t Temporal Realignment address that? I feel like that’s is the intent.

  • Temporal Realignment has been updated – Now immediately heals 20% of your health and heals an additional 30% over 6 seconds.

That being said, this seems to be a poison season, so hard to say if this stuff will even matter much..

Oneshot things will continue to kill us, and there won’t even be a window of time for that to be triggered xd

True, but i believe he said rot, in that instance.

Frost: ice coldx2 + barrier
Arcane: ice cold + barrierx2
Fire: ice cold + barrier + cauterize

I’m not saying it’s fair but ever spec has three things. I’d like barrier to get some tuning and buffs. If all the barriers had the special effects the other had that would help. And make them off the GCD and castabel while casting.

Getting the bare minimum doesn’t equal eating good, and to be honest I’m not even sure we’re getting there. Two charges of Prismatic Barrier does help, but it’s still far from enough. One extra barrier will not suddenly resolve the huge amount of deaths for Arcane, and it’ll instead skyrocket Frost’s.

This is, believe it or not, a nerf. I don’t really care about this one though, because I’m likely never going to talent into it anyway.

The 4% avoidance was the most tone deaf change I’ve seen since they tried to remove two charges of Ray of Frost.

Well, hard to say at this point of them starting to balance. 25% more HP from the rebalance is a lot and scales anything related to HP. So its not just another barrier, its a stronger one compared to s1. Is it enough, hard to say.

I’m not sure how they came up with avoidance being the talent of choice, but on the other side with mobs doing 25% more damage, it also has more value then s1.

point being things in s1 are not 100% apples to apples as to what could work in s2.

If they reduced the spikiness of damage as they intend, our barriers become much better.

Sorry, I was referring to glacial bulwark nerf. “Glacial Bulwark has been updated – No longer grants an additional charge of Ice Barrier.”

I can confidently tell you it’s not, because since we have the least amount of total HP out of all classes, we benefit the least out of this change. All it’s doing is making the disparity between us and other classes bigger.

And yet rot damage is still one of our biggest weaknesses. These changes are just not good for us.

I think I was in denial when I read this originally lol i nthe patch notes.

It’s kind of crazy they can announce they want to improve Mage Defensives and do that by… 4% avoidance and removing a Barrier charge from Ice Mage.

This is a massive devastating nerf to Frost Mage, and their logs surely show they die a enough as it is. All mages should have two Charges of Barrier.

Literally could fix 1/2 the issues by reverting nerfs: Ice block heals 80% like it used to in DF, MI has 20% DR so it’s not, you know, totally worthless in m+, shield healing returned. These are not hard or complicated. If they are an issue in pvp, just make them… wait for it… waaaaait… not apply to pvp. :exploding_head: What a concept, right?

It’s ironic they handed us avoidance—almost like they knew better options existed but wanted everyone to know avoidance was the answer.

Blizzard is correct to try and make your character work the same in pve and pvp. They should absolutely not remove features for pvp. Tuning sure but this would be too far imo.

Why do all this when they could just buff barrier?

I agree that shield healing is great for smoothing out damage intake. Even letting barrier be a partial absorb would be great as well.

And yet they do it all the time.

If you have to ask this, there’s no point in discussing it further.

I’m not talking about tuning, I’m talking about how an ability works. I don’t think there are any abilities that only partial function in pvp like you suggest.

Why respond then if you’re just going to be rude and say nothing?

It’s unfortunate you think that’s “rude;” maybe internet forums are not the best place for you? :snowflake: But since you seem to be missing my point, I’ll explain. Buffing barrier would be lovely, but in no way, shape or form would make up for the loss of iceblock heal, shield healing and MI damage reduction. Barrier would have to be quintupled and put on a 10s cd to make those equal.

It’s pathetic. We have to sacrifice a full talent point for an underwhelming tertiary stat in laughably low quantity and which is bugged and doesn’t even work in many instances where you’d think it would.

GG. Blizz literally hates Mages. Especially Sunfury Arcane Mages.
