As demon also use shadow magic alongside fel magic, is it totally impossible that Demon Hunter can tap into the way of void as they harness the way of demon to fight against demon?
A 3rd spec which puts DH into a less mobile, void consuming caster-melee hybrid spec that doesn’t rely on fel magic as much and focus on shadow magic DOT or possible healing (don’t forget shadow mend is a thing).
And the theme of the spec would be around drawing energy from the beyond, the twisting nether, where demon and Demon Hunters’ souls rest upon death.
And no, I do not support stripping skills from Shadow Priest just because I think both of them can wield void energy as an offensive option.
This could also be a way to introduce DH to new races.
Lore: Some ex-illidari like Altruis, saw the fel influence on Illidan’s mind, so they outcast themselves and start focusing their training on the shadow aspect of demon instead of fel. So it comes the introduction of the 3rd spec along new races.

A ranged DH spec would be nice, base it around throw glaive/fel barrage kind of moves. Could even throw in some longer range sigil-type moves from vengeance too. The basis is all there to build it, and they’d be able to keep it in line with the already existing DH specs.

I really don’t want a third spec until they address and fix core issues with the two other specs.
Once the two specs issues are resolved, give us a 2h weapon range spec. Think survival, but good!

True, not so sure about 2-handed weapon, but I think the 3rd spec could be caster-like that can use off hand (like Illidan holding gul’dan’s skull) that it focus on tapping or corrupting enemies with shadow damage DOT skills but the dotting range is obviously not as far as caster, maybe 10-20 yards, paired with melee attacks with the one hand weapon
Yes, shadow mend is a thing too, so it could be a shadow corrupting/tapping DOT + healing spec with 1 hand weapon and a off hand
I’m fine with it, but only if monks get a ranged DPS spec.
I would probably play a demon hunter healer, if only because I love glide.

Most of the ideas I’ve seen here just look to be directly ripping off Warlock which is funny because DH was born out of ripping off of Warlock.
Imo, I don’t think DH needs another spec unless they decide to do some mega-cata level revamp where they add cool new specs for all classes (I want to heal by yelling at people as a Warrior). In that event, I’d welcome another spec.
Hey thats why I stan the 2h. Also remember the dh in the opening quests with a pole arm it was cool.
Maybe staves with a fel focused caster set and eye beams
Take Hunter SV spec and call it a day.

I think it’s an opportunity for Blizzard to introduce DH to other races.
In lore, any races could be a demon hunter, there are always exiled demon hunters in the world of Azeroth, and training a DH without Illidan is totally a thing.
So other than making up a reason for why there’s a need for new DH after the collapse of the burning legion (new races DH), they could make it so that there was always these non-illidari DH and they (like Altruis) saw the influence of fel on Illidan’s mind and thus spent more time practicing shadow magic instead of Fel magic.
Thus the 3rd spec can be introduced along new races for DH.
Ranged DPS, using Chaos energy, Shadow magic and green fire.
We could use a really high-mobility caster. All damage and mobility, very little control (just Imprison).

That doesn’t sound to far from Havoc except the mobility, I would rather Blizzard make the 3rd spec stands out on its own, Havoc and Vengeance already feel too similar imo, it would be great to have an alternative DPS spec though
Never did get why 2H DH isn’t a thing, there’s a Demon Hunter wielding a scythe in Aszuna.
Maybe a Sacrifice spec? Whose biggest abilities come at the cost of serious health expenditures or nasty backlash debuffs?

They should make demon hunter ranged be a Chackram based ranged DPS imagine the DH throwing chakrams with style
