So Blizzard have released some offical 3d models for Rumble, is there any way to go about exporting our current Heroes from WoW in their current Transmogs to .stl files for 3d printing - I remember YEARS ago companies would actually use things like Armory and Model Maker to make janky renditions of models they would 3d print and sell to people. It’d be awesome to see an export model feature and might start a whole new trend in computer gaming allowing users to 3d print our favorite heroes in real life from different IP’s.

I don’t know how or if this is exact but I think people pull models into Mixer and do it there. Remember an old guildie would make table top figures of peoples toons.
But a more official way would be pawggies.
Yeah i would love to have a couple of my toons made. Hopefully blizzard will do something like this.
I know there are people on Etsy that do it, a quick Google should find them. I’ve thought about it but I don’t know if I could ever decide the right mog to get a model of.

I imagine they would paywall STLs or make them copyrighted or some crap.
Do it like they did the Rumble models, makes round disk bases (common in wargames) and on the bottom just add a “Copyright of Blizzard Entertainment, Not For Resale” …well in a perfect world, but I’d be ok paying like $5 to get my exported toon.
Maybe the SFM community can help you. I’ve seen some stuff that looks like in game models, maybe they have the resources. Would probably still be paywalled though.

Those models, and your char model etc belong to blizzard. Trying to go about doing this then selling it can get you sued.
Nah they can’t/wouldn’t sue over an STL. They have no idea if it’s modified. Once you make a single alternation to the STL file, it becomes your property.
It depends on the lawsuit tbh. If they’re trying to sue for likeness of IP or copyright. Even then, it’s like trying to sue someone for making a drawing of your character.
If he started selling printed 3D statuettes of Thrall, then Blizzard might be able to sue.
Used to be a company that did prints of characters. My sister managed to get me one as a birthday present of my cataclysm geared druid at the time…
Haven’t heard wonderful things about said company’s activity since then though.

Yeah if you’re a 3D artist. I could if I knew how to extract the models from the game. It honestly would take longer to extract the crap and refit the armor onto the base model than it would to get it 3D print ready.
The characters and gear is already super low res, would be fairly easy to scale everything and make everything water tight. Then you have printable STL file.
It’s hard to tell looking at the game what is part of the mesh and what is just texture work. The game is really good at using tricks to fluff up low res models. Might have to do mesh touch ups to bring out detail in the final print STL. (In games the mesh is separate from the texture for performance reasons, but in 3D printing they need to be one thing essentially, otherwise you get a print that has no detail)
I want to 3D print Julaalu and other characters. But have no idea how.
You’d prolly have to commission someone to do it. It’s not illegal though.
Last I heard, you can export your actual game chr/model … but only up to DF.
Now that tWW is out, maybe they include DF??
But the last I heard on this was around S3 or so, and you couldn’t export anything from DF.
But anything up to that point was available.
