3d accelerator not supported by wow

I received this error yesterday morning after playing fine the night before. found error code 43 in device manager and uninstalled the existing nvidia programs so I could reinstall. Now my card is no longer showing under display adapters. Any idea how to get it back? Doesn’t show in DxDiag either.

I’m running a GeForce GT 740, which IS supported according to the wow site.

Hey Fullpockets,

Code 43 usually means there’s hardware/device issues with the GPU. It could also indicate driver install problems (corruption). You may want to try wiping the current Nvidia driver install using a program like Display Driver Uninstaller and then reinstall the latest driver (441.41).

Feel free to post your DXDIAG if you’re still having issues and we can take a look.

DxDiag:

  1. Press Windows Key + R.
  2. Type DxDiag and press Enter.
  3. In the DxDiag window, click Save All Information.
  4. Name the file “dxdiag” and click Save
  5. Paste the DxDiag into the post, select and highlight everything you just pasted, and hit the “code” button (</>). That’ll make the information much more readable.

If you are unable to post this, please feel free to use pastebin.com and share the link with us instead.

(provide the code from the pastebin link - the bold portion of this example: https://pastebin.com/ Qk28Ed1P)

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, I did what you suggested and I’m back to having no card shown. I no longer have an error 43 because it is not recognizing the card.

Can you post the full DXDIAG? Looks like most of it got cut off.

I assume you’ve already rebooted the PC as well to see if that gets the system to recognize the card?

My mistake, here is the pastebin link. geff3v43

I’ve tried rebooting, it does nothing. I can get the card to show up in device manager if I “update driver” for the generic “Display” in the “other devices” tab. But the card went away when I downloaded the most recent driver 441.41

It looks like you are using a HP EliteDesk 800 G1 computer which only has an Intel 4600 as part of the integrated graphics on the CPU. This is below the system requirements for the latest version of WoW although it may be able to run the Classic version.

There may not be much you can do but you could try getting the latest Intel driver from here though. You may need to uninstall the current graphics driver first by following these steps.

If this persists, the only thing we can suggest is to test the game on a computer that meets the system requirements.

No, I have a GeForce GT 740 installed. It is now recognizing it again.

Here is an updated DxDiag. 6VPTvL2s

I have the onboard graphics disabled

The GT 740 is a little below the minimum system requirements of GTX 560. The GT series are lower power and are intended for workstations while the GTX series are designed for gaming. You may still not be able to run the game with that card but it looks like the Nvidia driver is also out of date.

To help with that, I would suggest a clean graphics driver install so we can remove the older files and get the latest version. To do this, download the latest Nvidia driver by going here.

Run the installer and select the Nvidia Driver option only. Then I would recommend doing a Custom install and selecting the ‘Perform a clean installation’ option which will remove the older files.

Once the driver install has finished, change the Nvidia settings so that the game is using the Nvidia card:
• Right click on the desktop and launch NVIDIA Control Panel → Manage 3D settings.
• Go to Program Settings tab.
• Select the game to change the graphics processor under “Select a program to customize”. If it’s not is not available, select the specific game from the drop down list.
• Select your “Prefer maximum performance” graphics card under “Power management”.

Then reset the game settings to set everything back to default. Also make sure that the monitor is plugged into the Nvidia card and not the motherboard. The correct port would be the expansion slot in this image.

Oh, I guess I assumed that a 740 would be better than a 560. Might be time for an upgrade.
I can’t seem to get Nvidia Control Panel to start, so I am unable to try your latest suggestion.
Maybe it won’t load because the card is disabled due to error 43?

Yeah it can be confusing since it’s a 700 series but the main features to look out for is the GTX vs GT. Also the second number is a good indicator of the power level of the card within that series. When card series are close together like the 500 and 700 series, a higher powered card of a low series may be more powerful than a higher series with a lower power. It can take some time to research and learn about the differences though and you can always search online, such as searching ‘GTX 560 vs GT 740’ for some comparisons.

As for that error 43, that may indicate a deeper problem with the card but here is some information from Nvidia. If you still have a problem, you may want to contact Nvidia support but in the mean time, you can try using the third party program DDU to remove the drivers, as it can sometimes help when there are problems like this. You can find a guide on using this program here. After this, run the Nvidia driver installer again.

@Fullpockets check out hwcompare dot com (seems i can’t use direct links) this site lets you see a comparison GFX cards that it has listed. which would help for seeing how one performs vs your current card.

also, with nvidia. i’d recommend reinstalling jsut the drivers. However, do a custom install > at driver list, check perform clean install. that should remove previous files that are being replaced by the update.

Thanks for the ideas. I’ll definitely try and learn more about the cards, thanks for the comparison site.
Now to see if I can run a bigger card on my current machine or if it’s time for a whole new setup…happy holidays to me lol

I’m just confused still as to why it only stopped working a couple days ago. Anyone know of a recent patch that increased the requirements?

my guess, clean the inside, if the temps get too hot, it could need to be cleaned. ifixit dot com/Device/PC can probably help, if your OEM site doesn’t have it this could.

reason being dust on the heatsinks reduces how effective they are. as you said earlier too, it could be that it’s just aging out and needs to be replaced.
