3D Acceleration

Since prepatch, I am getting DCd and the following error msg is displayed, “World of Warcraft was unable to start up 3D acceleration.” Sometimes it freezes everything and I can’t even bring up Task Manager and am forced to literally unplug my computer. Is this a Blizz thing or a graphics card thing? Mine is a GeForce 5060Ti. You can imagine the issue this causes in the middle of a raid! Help, please.

I noted this in another thread.

Try doing a ddu removal of the drivers, then a full install of the Nvidia driver if uninstalling the windows update doesn’t work.

It’s happening to me and I’m still running windows 10 on an older laptop. I don’t know what blizzard did to make Nvidia freak out like this.

How old? The system requirements increased with the Midnight prepatch.

2018 gaming laptop.
This one, specifically:

newegg(dot)com/asus-zenbook-15-6-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-intel-core-i7-7700hq-fhd-16gb-memory-512-gb-pcie-ssd/p/N82E16834235026?Item=N82E16834235026

I do strore WoW on an external hard drive and have some things boosting it. My “frankenlaptop” setup until i can afford to build a new PC. (not happening any time soon with ram prices going up)

This GPU is the absolute minimum for the new specs, so make sure you’re turning down graphics settings.

External storage isn’t supported. You can get it working (obviously), but it can cause issues.

Thank you. I really appreciate you looking into this for me. I updated a few things and I’ve not had issues for a couple days. Hopefully it remains that way.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. What I ended up doing was to delete all NVIDIA gameplay overlays. Left only the control panel file and graphics card app. Stopped auto update, will do manually. Also changed to DirectX 11. That was nearly a week ago and so far so good.
