3600 now or wait?

i’m running fine now, no problems no hangups but its almost 4years. should i just wait or do it “now”

What’s your reason for wanting an upgrade?

Just cause?
IDK a little more performance is always nice.
Just feels like its time.

What CPU do you have now?

1700 with 1080, was kinda wanting to get the 2080 but
i convinced myself to just wait till 3000’s come out

You’ll get a boost upgrading to a 3600, but it won’t be mindblowing or anything. A handful of frames here and there. Best case scenario, you upgrade and then try to sell your chip on Craigslist for 100 bucks or something.

Plus you probably don’t have a 500 series mobo, so since AMD changed their minds on adding support for Zen 3 on 300 and 400 series mobos, the upgrade to 3000 series CPUs is the best you can do.

i actually recently updated the bios and my mobo did say that it supports a newer chip. IDK how that actually is in practice though, i kinda dc from “Tech” news once i buy whatever it is i want until a few years pass.

Probably Ryzen 3000 series. AMD backtracked on supporting the next series (the 4000 Zen 3 parts) on older mobos (300 and 400 series). People are flipping out

I still see people gaming and streaming with Intel i7 3770k chips, with little problems, and those came out in 2012. The 1700 isn’t that far behind.

A good chip is a good chip, and the 1700 is just fine. Like you said you have little problems with it. Chasing numbers in the PC upgrade world is a fools game, something better is always around the corner.

People don’t always “need” to upgrade but still do so when it has to do with their hobbies. IMO, the reasons make sense to go for a 3600 (e.g., relatively inexpensive, last major series upgrade for the mobo, should provide noticeable improvement in most games [especially WoW with the ST gains], it’s been ~3 years since his CPU was released)

hey dude.

i have to say i’m pretty entertained by the outcry from AMD fans regarding this motherboard issue.

otherwise…i’m back…kind of.

Oh, god. You guys are dating? OP just wanted to buy a processor

OP has a 1700 - if it’s stock he could give it an easy OC - first gen non-x chips clock very low under most scenarios at stock settings. Like 3.3 or 3.4ghz.

You may find that just locking it at 38 will give you enough of a boost to feel better.

I wouldn’t upgrade. My 1600 at 3.8ghz is fine for most games. Just temper expectations, adjust settings as necessary, and game on.

Wait for something more substantial.
