3080 would it run on my setup?

Thanks for any input.

What power supply are you using? Nobody will know for sure how much power the RTX 3080 requires until it’s been tested, but the listed TDP is 320W, which is considerably higher than the GTX 1080’s 180W TDP, so you might need to upgrade your power supply to be able to accommodate a 3080.

You’ll be fine psu wise, just got to make sure your case has enough clearance for the card. The 850 watt tdp requirement was for the RTX 3090. Even then, 850 watts was just taking power supplies with terrible efficency into account.

7700k will be able to power a 3080 ti probably in a lot of games

But I’d say at least as many if not more of them will limit the 3080’s capability by the 7700k.

Unless you’re going to be upgrading your CPU when the next Ryzen generation launches, I don’t think it’s a good idea to get the 3080 - you may find the same results from the 3070 for less money.

Also what display are you using? If it’s a 1080p/60 display there’s like, no difference in a most games between what you have and the 3070/3080.

When I built this I wanted to make sure it was as easy as possible That’s why I went with a big case.

Rosewill Full Tower Gaming Computer Case, support up to HPTX MB, Support Dual PSU, come with 8 cooling Fans - BlackHawk-Ultra

I’ll try to upgrade every year that’s why I’ve got 32 gigabytes of ram I started at 16. This is my first build and I love it I still got a lot to learn.

My display is a 65 inch Vizio TV I know it’s not the best to play on but I love the immersive feeling I get and dam at the room I got to put my cast bars.

When I build this I had a lot people tell me the1080 would be over kill but I went with it and I love it I have not had any problems as of yet.

is your TV 1080p or 4k

It is 4K. And I do appreciate all y’all’s input.

if you only play wow, i think the 1080 will still push 4k fine.

my 5700 xt can do 4k/60 in wow at 10 (most of the time, but usually its CPU limits) and the 1080 is close.

A 3070 should be about 30% faster, and a 3080 should even faster than that.

But 4k TV is going to be 60hz, so anything above is going to be wasted.

If you only play WoW, i don’t think it’s worth upgrading.

If you do play other games, i think a 3070 might work to get you to 60fps in more intense games at 4k.

3080 will make almost all games run 4k/60, and i don’t think a 7700k is going to be a bottleneck in most cases at 4k.

But again, if all you play is WoW or older games, not worth it.

Thank you and yes wow is the only game I play. I upgrade every year with my taxes. So something’s going to get upgrade I was thinking it would be the graphic card but I really don’t know.

I would wait for SL and give your 1080 a try, if you are unsatisfied with the performance you can reassess with options that are then avaiilable.

It is also worth considering what the ACTUAL benefit is. The charts that Nvidia was showing was using ray tracing and rastarization as well as DLSS where they can get away with it.

If you don’t need that stuff you may not need to upgrade from a 1080. They are just desperate to get people to upgrade from the their pascal cards since their overall sales numbers for Turing weren’t what they hoped… Probably because when you subtract ray tracing… There wasn’t a performance justification for leaving pascal.

I’m still mad at nvidia for the 2000 series cards.

I feel it was just a way to subsidize RTX R&D that absolutely wasn’t ready for retail.

They pushed the cost of this beta tech onto the consumer.

Sorry it took me so long to get back but my Internet went out wish there was a better Internet provider In my area cause mediacom sucks.

SL will hit before I get any money to upgrade my computer It will be at least February.

Isn’t the 3070 is 2x twice faster than the 2080ti? and cheaper by a lot…

The question is is there any difference between 3080 and 3070 when it comes to Ray tracing only? like is the 3080 better on RT on? or all the 3000 series share the same cores for RT.

3070 is allegedly about the same or slightly faster than 2080 ti for $499.

We don’t know if they meant in rasterization or just rtx.

As far as 3070 vs 3080, there’s different amounts of rtx/does resources on each card, so it should scale to an extend between them.

Do you think I need to replace my PSU for 3080? I currently have 750wats. And btw I heard some other companies won’t be using the new 12-pin connectors.

Like Aorus 3080 will be using the normal 8-pin connectors right? thanks for replying btw.

Don’t know - but if it’s a quality 750w it should be okay.

If the card draws as much as 400w, and the rest of your system won’t generally pull more than 200 unless you have something absurd like a 10900k, you should be good with a 600w psu.

This is a good point. I assumed they meant overall performance, but thinking back on it, he could have been referring to just RTX … That would change my calculation as to whether or not I would consider upgrading from my 2070 or if I’ll skip a generation…
