30% of players quit WoTLK Classic

  • Wrath Phase 1 is the first instance of repeated content in Classic.
  • It’s probably the easiest content that’s ever been live in Classic.
  • Phase 1 has already gone on longer than many people were asking for.
  • It’s also the first time in Classic’s history that Retail has had a major release that’s been met with highly positive reviews.
  • It’s also the first time so many problems were caused by the devs completely abandoning Classic for the launch of Retail content.

This is the phase we’re at the end of after most people have cleared all the content, on multiple characters.

The current population is still higher than in the vast majority of Classic’s recorded history until Wrath launched. The current population is what we experienced when Classic was considered to be at its peaks in Vanilla and TBC.

Quit =/= playing the brand new retail expansion while p1 wotlk approaches its end?

I’ve raided probably the last 6-7-8 weeks without needing too, just because I like to raid with the gang.

A lot of people can’t be bothered or are playing other things until p2, numbers will pick back up into ulduar.

They quit out of boredom. Leveling experience is absolutely horrendous with no RDF(people are not joining an MMO to play a single player game for a month+) or real XP buffs. Vanilla content questing is a terrible unoptimized experience. When you finally do get to wraith content, everything is dead because most people are already 80 and refuse to make new characters. And people are tired of doing the same raids over and over. + bugs they refuse to fix. PVP is completely boinked because blizz refuses to allow access to arena gear to allow for fair opportunity. And classes that are not performing well at all(ret pali/warrior).

Or they wandered to other pastures. I am not even going back to retail.

Some slowness in classic and even retail had me go…lets install eve. to at least see it on the new new rig I got this year. It got really pretty with RTX 3080 lol

TIme in new eden has increased.

PVP issues (now only gettting somewhat resolved at seasons end) and some wanted features jsut not here. Not a three word feature thread to aid in finding groups thread.

At this point when faction/race changes come it may be too late. I tried and just can’t level up a BE for horde lol. I needed faction/race change months ago.

I would have like to see horde at level cap “end game” times. this is most likely coming too little too late.

if given now it be like…that job that calls you up the week before you start the other job applied for that called sooner. sorry dudes…but your HR sat too long.

My guild has been doing Naxx since the start, and over Nov and into Dec attendance started to drop.

This past week was like 50% pugs cause even people who signed up couldn’t push themselves to log on.

Naxx is pretty boring and if you are into something else, why come play?

Devs should have planned better for P2. It should be dropping mid month, but they are still playing around with PTR and zero communication.

It’s funny we joke about “small indie company” but they act like it ALL THE TIME.

Streamer trolls are gonna troll.

Pretty sure Blizzard has more accurate numbers than this.

If only 30% have stopped playing since launch that’s really good. I would have expected a decline of 50% or more 3 months after Wrath launch.

maybe. but they too could be inaccurate.

They’d be mau based. you logged in. Monthy account used +1.

what’s it used for? this is the actual question of importance.

Well for me 6 days in a row I logged in to see if OB rated an alliance WG buff. so I could go to WG to turn in quests.

for 5 days…2 times a day hours apart, no buff ergo no access. and I logged right after.

day 6 I got lucky. first time login OB alliance had access. Yay! turn in quests. it is over finally. Logged off.

this was 6 days of MAU’s. was I really playing? No.

Blizzard took too long (and posted in the ptr threads not many read) about pvp season end changes. I was pushing honor cap with no idea how much I’d lose on conversion day.

Now I know. after several days of not playing. Oh well.

Wotlk isn’t as great as people thought. Dragonflight actually being good doesn’t help either.

That graph is from WCL, whatever the numbers are (which we don’t know) of people quitting because they are incapable of leveling in easy mode WoW, they are not represented in the graph.

This is 100% the fault of blizz here. They’re overextending P1 because of the new expansion release, but P1 raiding is blow my brains out boring. I want my guild to finally stop running Naxx too. We should have been starting the new year with Ulduar, if not already having some runs done by Christmas.

There will be ups and downs with every raid release. Probably not that many with ToC.

“30% of players quit” * cites mold * k easy report spam.

The leveling experience is terrible because it was designed during a period of growth in the games history, so the world felt lived in and occupied. Wrath is the exact opposite, it hit saturation pretty much day 1, most people that were ever going to play the game have already done so, so the only people leveling up are alts, and theres not a lot of them.

That said, jj makes questing pretty tolerable, though the character I was leveling was a revenge prot warrior, so maybe I had it a fair bit easier than most.

Why do people link react videos instead of the original authentic ones?

Then the core video used Christmas week for “the big drop off” numbers. Holidays are always going to have fewer people playing. Why did that Metagoblin guy not notice this? Is he completely oblivious to people being busy doing things outside of gaming around the holidays or is it just being dramatic to get viewers? Probably the second one.

There was already going to be a population drop-off anyway. So much doomsaying though on these forums and elsewhere.

I wasn’t talking about Metacritic, which is what I’m assuming you’re referring to.

Most of the talk I’ve heard about Dragonflight, both from friends and other outside sources has been very positive. I’ve seen no indication that it hasn’t been well-received, outside of places like this where people are going to call it garbage even though they probably haven’t played it. (I haven’t)

Some people I met in Wrath Classic, gave DF a try… I haven’t seen them in-game ever since.

Literally this. This raid is absolute torture at this point.
