3$ more for Canadian players now?

Like…Why does this game still have a sub in the first place?

Because many people dislike microtransactions as it is and don’t want this game turned into a F2P model with more gating, paying, etc.

I pay every 6 months. Used to be 90 something. Now it’s over 100. Exchange rate sucks. :frowning:

Edit: Oh, nevermind. We’re paying more than the exchange rate. Yikes. We’re actually paying more USD than the Americans are. That sucks. :frowning:

I resubbed a few weeks ago. I’m not going to bother continuing at this price. More important things to pay for during these tough times!

Just found out.

Just unsubbed. Will be gone after Xmas.

Thank goodness I did not buy Shadowlands!

Good call. Food and shelter are way more important than a video game sub.

On the flip side though, not many things offer the amount of entertainment that WoW does for such a low price.

but WoW already has microtransactions…

i thought canadian sub was already more expensive to account for the value of the dollar and then there was that tax on digital goods thing.

did the dollar drop or something ?
if not , there’s no reason to bump the price for canadians without bumping the US price. what’s happening lol

It’s important to note for those unfamiliar with the forex- this is not the CAD matching the USD, it actually was lined up before the change. For this to match, the USD price would have to go to over 17USD.

Which, btw, for those who aren’t in Canada and think this is not big deal, could very well be what happens next. This is a ‘testing the waters’ move, and if players are fine with it, especially if US players don’t think this is a big deal- Blizz will do this in the US.

If there’s big pushback/drop in Canadian subs, well, they’ve damaged a smaller market.

But definitely, tip to US players who think this won’t effect them- don’t praise or be fine with this, Blizz doesn’t listen to us on a lot of things but they absolutely will when it comes to making them more cash.

That’s still a huge market though, that’s nuts. Did they already do this to Australia?

Wouldn’t surprise me, I’m less familiar with the Aus but they tend to get pretty shafted on gaming in general.

They seem to be moving up bit by bit- which just makes it very likely they’ve already decided on a US price hike, they just haven’t decided when.

You must have some amazing prices to get food, clothing and shelter for $3/month

game is already a f2p type game:

  1. buy tokens with RL cash
  2. sell those tokens for gold.
  3. use that gold to get loot funnels for the best gear in the game by being carried by boosters.

buy power with RL money ftw.

Most likely RIGHT before a big content patch that people would resub to do.

They’ve probably figured out the exact dollar amount they can hike it to that will allow them to make the same amount of money they do now (or more) despite losing all the people such an uptick would drive away.

But man, I can hear the white knights already. “This game has been the same price for 16 years! Think of all the value they’ve given you for that. Everything else has gone up in price. Why shouldn’t the sub?”

And then the trolls about how poor people must be to be quitting over ONLY $3.

That they are doing this shows they’ve definitely given up on trying to improve the game or reach out to anyone but the diehards and sweaty tryhards. That they are doing it in the middle of a pandemic when so many people are losing their incomes is just frankly evil.

I thought it didn’t impact subscription prices - if you have a subscription it’s still the same price as before, it’s the “Game Time” purchases that have increased.

At this point the only thing WoW offers that other MMOs do not are the larger raids. Elsewise pretty much all the big MMOs have what WoW does, sometimes with even more on top of that since housing is standard in a lot of them. WoW’s a little in the past on a few things.

But yeah, if you want a good deal I would suggest FF14. You can get a cheap sub and it updates content more often than WoW does. It also has housing, more content for casuals, crafting events, things like treasure maps and fun games to play in your off time, etc. It has raids too, but they’re a different beast than WoW.

As is stands I pay for both games as as much as I like FF14, I also like the raiding in WoW.

Yup lets increase the price during a pandemic, very nice of you blizzard.
If doesnt affect me but I could see it affect some people and lose the only thing that keep them from getting crazy from 2020.

When I go to the shop, it says 21 dollars, but when I click the + button, it takes me to the shop but it says 18.99. Is that going to change? Because if it isn’t then I don’t see the issue here. Just do 1 month and cancel it whenever you want.

Already has a shop despite subs

You can prob get around it by setting location to in the us. Than paying in usd via your credit card assuming your bank dosent charge a transaction charge for paying in usd (myn dosent) as such you only pay the conversion.
