2v2 having problems with paladin

my buddy(unholy) and i(frost) just cannot deal with holy and ret paladins at all. their defensive utility is just absurd. what the heck do we do against it? we don’t want to swap our classes just to counter paladin.

Nothing. You die.

feels like it right now.

Your immediate issue is double DK dps in 2s.

Go with a OP DPS class to attempt a double dps comp, or grab a healer.

From my experience, if you can force the ret into off-healing mode you’ll stay alive longer. Use AMS/AMZ appropriately and kite him during wings.

So first thing you have to understand is DK is pretty bad in 2’s
Unholy normally preforms a lot better but since its a little rough right now in PvP that leaves DK in a awkward position for 2’s

The second thing building off Nethilios why in the ebon blade’s name would you run double dk in 2’s and expect anything other than immediate failure?

With freedom/horse the ret can only stay ontop of you for a limited time, During that time you can use your 80% magic damage reduction and /dance at him untill dome drops and then you can chains kite with a little support from your partner the ret shouldnt be able to get full duration wings on you. The issue comes from his mini wings which are sporadic and a lot harder to manage.

Putting pressure on ret will force him to cast 30k WoGs heals on himself instead of hitting you for 13k templar verdicts which is better I guess? Ret’s/wars/ww are just better than you and its magnified greatly in 2’s since its a lot harder to cleave. Highest I hit this season in 2’s was 1930 and honestly its because those other teams made mistakes that let me win because naturally theres no way I out pressure any of those classes…

TLDR: play threes and dont play double dps.

The sad truth is that right now too many classes/specs are overtuned in PvP while others like DKs remain undertuned.

Until the developers finally sit down and start hotfixing hopefully in the near future, it’s not going to be a remotely fair fight as far as DKs are currently concerned.

Like others have said, I’d avoid double DPS unless you have one of those overtuned classes to rely on and focus on getting a good healer or better yet stick to 3s with said good healer where you can actually have some breathing room and not get utterly obliterated in 4 seconds.

Again, hopefully the developers start hotfixing things soon to fix this, but for right now just stick with what works.

we are playing double dks in 2s because that is what we want to play. we don’t want to play anything else. being forced to play something else just to have a chance against one class really sucks. we are playing what we like to have fun. and just would like some form of advice on what we can do to help fight against paladin. we aren’t asking for people to tell us to swap classes, if it’s an uphill battle, that’s fine, but being told several times to not play what we want because it’s bad is really annoying.

That’s the name of the game for arenas. Not everything is viable.

Some comps are just bad and will remain bad. Some comps are near impossible for others to beat without lots of practice. In some cases, especially this season, its just more so the class vs the players skill.

Hpal/Ret you’re going up against absurd healing AND off-healing, ontop of Ret’s burst, ontop of their defensives. Comparing that to your sub par ST burst and FDK’s cleave with being as squishy as you are…there’s a good chance that even if you play your cards right you’ll win 1 or 2 out of 10 games against that comp at best.

Your chance of survival comes down to “what can I do to ensure the Ret does as little damage as possible” and kite the living hell out of him.

Do you know if it’s worth it to drop razorice for sanguination? What is the bonus damage amount when someone is in execute range?

Are you using Dark Simulacrum? Play with is agansit pallies. You can steal both Bop and Divine shield. Along with freedom, and Hoj.

I run it every single game against pallies and can usually steal a bubble or Hoj. Stealing bubble is easy, just use it when they are getting bursted and are approaching death. They are gonna bubble or hoj you at that point and try to to turn on you. When they do you get a free pally spell.

I haven’t read it fully and passed by it, but that sounds EXTREMELY extremely promising.

It is the only spell that makes pvp fun for me. You can steal so many magic cds its crazy.

Pally spells are usually the most impactful and easy to copy. But Priest (Psyche scream, pain suppression) , locks (Mortal coil, infernal, Dark soul fear), mages (combust, frost nova, blink, ice block) , Shammy (hex) and druids (thorns, cyclone) have some fun ones too. (Dam shammies usually just give you a shock or lava burst which is meh, damage skills don’t give you their class scaling so copying a damage spell is meh)

Biggest down side is that they have to get the spell off. You can kind of ignore that if they target you by using AMS, but that cost your AMS. Up to you to analyze the gain vs cost there.

Oh and one last thing. Most spells that you copy will be instant cast. Your copied cyclone, or hex will come out instantly. Once you copy a spell you have a limited time to use it. (Something like 15-20secs I’m not entirely sure the length)

Bonus thing I learned. For some reason the game wont let me use my copy Divine shield on a friendly, but will let me use a copy Bop on a friendly. Unsure why.

Edit: Using the word copy instead. More additions

Thanks so much man. I’m now armed with the knowledge to have some form of a chance of fighting paladins with my friend. Dark simulacrum, ams and kiting.

Light cast the darkest shadows. Help them lose their sight brother.

Against a hpal/ret comp you will not outlive them in the long game. The goal here is to kill them before they kill you.

I haven’t done double dps in hot minute but generally my tactic is to keep chains on ret while I force a CD out of the hpal, then pull ret in, blind, Chill streak, stun and burst on the hpal. If the ret doesn’t go into off-healing, hpal dies.

If they live, it’s rinse & repeat for a 2nd run.

Is there room to hit them with a dark simulacrum?

I personally never had to use it against pallys. I’ve used it in particular situations on priests & mages, though. But only in 3s. That talent takes a little bit of practice as it grabs the next spell used that consumes mana. The timing, in my opinion, is too particular for a bursty fast pace meta. That and you have to give up a talent slot that’s going to assist you in this damage race.

Heart stop and Chill streak are perma choices. Necrotic aura is my default for my 3rd which I usually swap for Delirium against mages, monks and DH’s, Dome of ancients if I feel like the comp is going to nuke me.

So do you just use necrotic aura against paladins?

Yes. My goal is to deal as much pressure as possible to keep the ret from doing damage.

I run with an hpal in 2s and running against hpal/rets we have a extremely good win rate. Honestly easier to deal with than warrior as Rets have their wings which is super kitable and then they’re squat.

The worst comp I go up against, which I have been running into a lot of lately in 2s id Dpriest & ww monk. It’s gross, i hate it.

So in that matchup, where there’s both a priest and a monk, what pvp talent do you swap for?
