Unironically the esport was more fun to watch when the game was like this too.
Because WoW is not a pvp game. They’re only going to give so much effort to it.
As they shouldn’t, that would not be fun at all.
I actually disagree with this. PVP may not be the highlight and at the center anymore but it played a dominant role in the game early on.
Alliance vs Horde, world pvp, honor ranks and bgs in vanilla and even TBC were very popular. I feel like wpvp itself didn’t even really cool off till cata with small bump ups like tol barad and timeless isle in MOP.
The focus shifted over time and PVP became more and more backseat till it got to where its at today. Vanilla/TBC/Wotlk? Def not and participation in WPVP and BGS was much much higher even to casuals. I was in a raid guild back then and a big PVEr and everyone loved to que bgs together on off nights or after raids. Always saw other top pve guilds queing bgs too.
Same with rushing out to wpvp for resources in silithus or in TBC elemental plateu back in the day.
Can’t pretend wow was never a PVP game or PVP wasn’t a big focus on it.
Absolutely! I don’t disagree with what you just said at all. But that was a long time ago, and reality is that pvp is treated as an afterthought. It’s just not where the money is.
That may be the case now but its only because strict focus on arena balance/rewards, sharding and WM have done irreparable damage to other PVP environments.
There is no AV vendor rewards your after like the unstoppable force or therazanes touch. Layers/sharding imbalances additional to warmode toggle did huge damage to it as well. There is no real incentive or motivation to participate in warmode or battlegrounds really besides initial honor gearing.
Don’t get me wrong when you go out to durotar/elwynn on any major servers people are still nonstop dueling and hanging out and wpvping in that form but nothing like it used to be. That itself is not from shifting the focus from PVP to PVE but more or less the zones that we used to be out and about in are dead.
When there was PVP/PVE servers, rep to farm, gold to make, items to buy it was more more active in zones. None of that really exists anymore in the way it used to so it was nothing neglecting PVP directly that caused it just times change.
That said we do have 2s, wpvp, bgs, epic bgs, shuffle and each of those specs should receive just as much attention as 3s. Additionally to cool items like theraznes touch or lobotimizer type things before thrown onto vendors to make it an MMO again and encourage different PVP formats.
If had to spend 40 hours playing epic bgs to get a staff that gave me 15% more fire damage and was comparable to conquest one you bet your bottom dollar i’d happily go do it with my eye on the candy. You could apply that to any class/spec having different gearing options/items.
Agreed 100%. Almost every other game does this. Gw2 balances arena separate from wvw (epic bgs) separate from colloseum (bgs).
League balances all their game modes differently.
I recognize those are more pvp focused games than wow is, but it can’t be that hard to do things like nerf starfall in epic bgs or cap revival dispel.
each instance of specific tuning increases my chance of quitting exponentially
stop promoting this crap, there is no reason why they cannot design classes and abilities to not even have this in the first place
