what do you guys think about a 2hd cloth tank with high dodge or using shileds or a 2hd cloth battle mage with shields for the next class?

Heck it, I mean Rift had tanks specs for every class set. I’d love something like the staff tanks I play in Divinity: Original Sin 2 where you just stack armor buffs on yourself and your team for mitigation.
i think it would be unique and a great idea we already have some thing like a necro with demo lock and a tinker with a hunterwith mechanical pets.
a cloth class using 2hd weapon tanking or dpsing would be unique and fun.
What we need is:
Ranged DPS (been 0 ranged DPS specs added since vanilla… 1 was actually removed)
Wears cloth or mail, preferably mail (only 2 mail classes, and neither have a tank spec)
Another healer spec couldn’t hurt either, But we already have 3 dps/tank/healer classes.
A class with 2 tank specs could be interesting. 1 spec that is great for soaking boss mechanics, low on the self-heals and utility, then another spec that is more 5 man based. great self-heals and more aoe CC/slows/stuns.
Tinker/engineer could be fun.
Also battle mage. (magical armor/weapons)
Dark ranger could be fun, but not sure we need another pure DPS class.
3 warlock specs ranged,shadow priest,boomkin,3 mage specs ranged,2 hunter specs range thats 9 ranged specs we got that covered.
what we dotn have is a 2hd cloth melee tank or dps class.
I mean… plate/mail is about as squishy has cloth these days. Those classes can’t really take much of a punch anymore without being in tank spec.
We don’t need more classes (though they’ll put one in to make people resub)… they can’t even balance what they got. Every new class is just another 2-4 specs to balance in an already poor state of balance as it is.
And if they really had to be bring one in, we need a mail class. There’s 3 cloth, 3 plate, 5 billion leather, and only 2 mail.
We tried that with Death Knights, didn’t work as well as they liked.
This has my vote because it can easily cover all the needed bases.
- Wears Mail? Check.
- Ranged Possible? Check.
- Could Tank/Heal/DPS? Check.
I’ve always thought that Tinkers could be a trifecta class. Turrets, gadgets, and guns, for RDPS. Medkits, nanobot dispersal, gun healing like the bandage gun from Legion, and armor/mitigation gadgets, for Healing. Energy Shields, Decoy Bots, and mechanical armor, for Tank.
I’d play that. I’d play the heck out of that. Plus, imagine if the tanks “active mitigation” was a turret or decoy that “stood in front” of them and soaked some damage (not all, but some). Or if the threat mechanic was somehow passing the bosses focus between you and two or three decoys.
To be fair, I feel like most classes are wet noodles until they get to very high ilvl’s. I suspect this is inflated due to ilvl scaling.
That said there’s something amusing about being called a “glass cannon” when I’m on my mage. It’s like… I mean… I don’t strictly do more damage than beefier classes, but I have fewer ways to stay alive without overly convoluted kiting. The “cannon” part of my glass cannon seems to be missing!
Homogenizing the classes to all do roughly the same damage was their biggest mistake tbh. Balancing the game to make every class equal in raiding was stupid.
I’ve always mentioned battle mage for the next class. They were a big part in warcraft 3 and you could have a field day implementing the specs.
They would wear mail, have a tank, healer and ranged DPS spec.
A tank would have shields based on magic. My thought is that you would have magic shields as mitigation and something very reactive and fun. Like applying a shield to bypass X amount of physical damage. Another shield that mitigates magic damage BUT uses a large portion of your physical shield strength.
So it’s up to the use whether you want to mitigate that magic damage and reduce your physical shield.
Or something of that nature, to make tanking more interesting.
Plus some of the effects would be awesome, like the particle blade from Diablo 3.
I’d be willing to bet real money that any and all future classes will only ever have at most 2 specs. The DH is the new template going forward. As it is Blizz would love to delete a whole bunch of specs from the existing classes in the game for the sake of streamlining the balancing.
I wouldn’t say all new classes would have 2 specs. But I doubt there will be any classes that have 2+ dps specs, or 2 healing specs.
only reason DH didn’t have a 3rd spec is because there was no good way to give it healing. And a 2nd dps spec or 2nd tank spec is just extra fluff to balance.
I’d be in for that. Ever since the Preach video where he said disc priests were originally supposed to be a tanking spec, I’ve kind of wanted a battle priest tank spec.

Clothies already have comparable health pools to DPS plate (which they shouldn’t if blizzard cared to maintain the armor balance)

The Arbiter mage tank in Rift was super fun. I’d love to see something like that in WoW, with the absorb shields and cycling buffs.
