2h melee hunter getting buffs but Arms still does half the dmg of anyone else

I know a dev last phase said Arms was, at that time, dropped from dev support, but it would be neat if warriors could have more than 2 talent trees that get updates in SoD. Hunters get 3 talent trees that can be played with ranged specs and dual wield/2h melee specs all being maintained. Shamans get resto, tank, ele, 2h enhance and 1h enhance. All 3 talent trees used. Rogues have S tier PVE and PVP specs that use all 3 talent trees. And a tank spec. We have healing mages and tank locks.

But we dont have Arms warriors. Loaded up PTR and made a bis hunter and bis warrior, and as Arms the Ashkandi crits a 0 armor target dummy for 2.5k with mortal strike. The hunters wyvern strike does almost 5,800 damage and then another 3,000 bleed damage… mongoose bite does 4.7 to 5.4k as well. A huge problem is that Arms just does no damage.

At the end of molten core, an Arms warrior at the 90th percentile on a tank and spank fight like golemagg in a raid environment (that favors warrior - rage gen and buffs, fully armor debuffed target) would have needed a flat 50% dmg boost overall to catch ret paladin! A class with bubbles, heals, cleanses, etc. In BWL, looking at razorgore which is pretty close to tank and spank, Arms would need a 70% dmg boost, OVERALL, to catch ret paladin.

Then you factor in that in open world, questing, dungeons, pvp, etc that targets dont have full armor debuffs and you can start to understand why Arms is F tier at PVE and PVP. It has no purpose, has no updates, and is just forgotten entirely in SoD. Making it at least playable would have been nice. Doesnt have to beat fury (which in many cases loses or ties with a lot of other classes at the 90th percentile, including hybrids lol) but it should at least compete with a Ret as Arms. It should be a spec that has more upfront, base, armor ignoring damage that could make it the option for dungeons, questing, pvp, etc whereas fury is better is ramping high buff raid scenarios.

edit: actually getting 7.8k raptor strikes and 5.8k mangoose bites lmao. Meanwhile 2.5k mortal strikes and 2k slams… yiiikes.

Has Arms ever been good for pve? or just a pvp spec?

I bet people can’t wait to see 12+ fury wars in fresh raids.

Mages need love too. I want to play mine. =(

from TBC to The War Within youve had rogues and mage/lock being good or overpowered, no reason to make a class “bad” because of being good at one point.

2004 was not balanced around world buffs. Raid and world buffs let warrior reach a breakpoint where they can spam heroic strike and remove the -19% hit penalty for both main and offhand in a game balanced around autoattack and also remove glancing blows on main hand. When you consider that and then see how close rogue is to them, rogue is the real winner of vanilla’s big picture haha. Also none of this power carried outside of raid.

Is boomkin, ret, and shadow priest a PVP spec in SoD? Its infinitely better than Arms in PVP, yet it also does 70% more dmg than Arms in raid.

There is no such thing as a PVP or PVE spec in WoW. There are talents and spells, not talent trees. Ele, Arms, and Sub are all great in CATA pve, and in Wotlk Fire mage, the best PVE spec in the game, was also a gladiator/PVP talent tree. So using “muh PVP spec” as an excuse to make the spec terrible makes no sense, especially when you also consider its bad at PVP too because arms does low dmg, has low utility, and low survivability. Its just bad at everything.

Mages in SoD are still better overall. Not as good as the other specs for pvp at least but it can do damage still. Its better than warrior if not anything else lol.

wrong 100% and I will have you go check some of Kefka videos. Mages tickle in pvp.

again… this is simply wrong.

Ive seen them blast pretty hard. THe problem is theyre a glass cannon when most classes like boomkins and priests are tank cannons. Warrior is a glass fart generator.

And this is blatantly and obviously wrong. Was wotlk fire mage a pve or PVP spec? because it was both #1 in PVE and a top tier gladiator spec in Arena and strong in BGs…

In SoD, Spriest, Boomkin, hunter, rogue, and ret all have specs that are very strong in PVP and in PVE. A ret paladin is within a couple percent of warrior in raid but crushes the best PVP set up a warrior can offer.

There are literally no PVP specs in WoW. Over expansions, you’ll see players gravitate towards the best spec for a certain activity, but its fluid. One expac, arena hunters are all survival, and the next theyre all marksman. Right now in Cataclysm, the goto PVE warrior spec is arms. Elemental shaman and Sub rogues are also top tier PVE specs.

So, you are verifiably wrong here. There are no such thing as PVP specs in WoW. There never has been. Its always been certain talents, but many times the tree with the best PVE set up will overlap with the best PVP set up. Usually the only difference is a few talent points here and there i.e. a fire mage will give up 2% damage in one area to get a talent that is strong in PVP like cauterize. They dont need it in raid so their raid spec doesnt take it but their PVP spec gets a huge boost so they take it for PVP, but both specs are Fire.

So, saying Arms is a pvp spec is stupid. You can load up cataclysm classic and play Arms as the PVE spec because WOW doesnt have PVP and PVE trees. It has PVE and PVP talents. And, sometimes, they even overlap based on the situation, where an ability is strong in both game modes.
