285k in 1.1 sec vs ret pally

Not counting a 128k final reckoning the GCD before that, but it was a 59k judgement with a 25k law bringer and and 1.1 sec later got hit for 185k radiant decree.

What exactly is my counterplay to that? I’m fine losing to a lot of different classes and specs, but that one just felt dumb and not fun. Like fighting a character 20-30 levels above you.

Fix it, it’s poor design.

Bro, you see wings, you run. it’s always been that way. Why you didn’t run? HOJ? why your healer didn’t dispel HOJ?

Answer those first.

I don’t actually mind the way Ret is designed now as an opponent. While they do have a nuclear option it’s obvious to even an old timer like myself squinting at the screen.

Concur with The Matrix paraphrase, “If you see wings, you do what we do, you run.”

example:
Was in a skirmish today against a Paladin, he used wings, I leapt away. My Wind Walker partner just tunnelled in and died.

And if you say/counter, what if all my tools are not up!>?

Well, then you die like a hero, facing your enemy.

honestly idc how predictable/telegraphed ret burst is, because ya it REALLY is once you know, but nothing should ever hit that hard.

Oh you mean the fact he was glowing, had the Seraphim buff, was running towards you with no fear? Those aren’t signs you are in danger?

bro i can’t see what im not looking for harhar. i just wanted to say bro

mmmmm glowing

I’m actually deceased that Rets are all over the arena forums the last 2 weeks acting like they have some god tier einstein setup when they’re literally capable of popping game ending damage instantly in a matter of globals.

Like imagine if every class had this kind of ridiculous damage at their fingertips in literally <3 seconds. No one would be playing this game

The class requires pure skill, honestly your lack of reflex from such obviously telegraphed sequence of abilities is the problem.

Do note that ret has to line 15 procs and super strict rotation to pull such number.

People keep saying “your healer should dispel” like the ret doesn’t have teammates to set him up / cc aswell rofl.

Trap the wings or just kite him. Wings always means run or cc

Not sure about that, this was literally him walking up on me at the start of the game, popped his stuff.

No counterplay to a one button 300k hit. I’m sorry, if you’re trying to defend that, you’re defending poor design. I’d way improvement in other areas, but that’s just dumb. I’ve seen streamers have their entire 3v3 team chunked with one GCD, worse than what I experienced.

The issue is that tbh thats really all ret has going for it unless it specs into a crippled healer spec centered around SH and maxing Consecration interactions.

They arent mobile. They arent tanky. They dont have solid defenses. Their self healing has always had a prohibitive opportunity cost (vs say, feral, who spends 4 gcds on HOTs, gets 60% of his health back and keeps all his combo points). Bringing a nuke to a knife fight has been what Ret was all about for longer than most of you reading this have been able to grow facial hair.

Cut into that and whats left? Average damage, subpar mobility, subpar durability, dubpar defenses and slightly above average utility (i would argue Shaman have comparable group utility with totems at this point, as well as comparable if not better self healing).

OMG TEH BUBBAL PLATE N HEELZ

Divine Shield barely lasts the global used to cast it against any team with 3 braincells still firing and the means to remove it. SoV pops even if theres no Warrior with Wrecking Throw or Evoker in range. DProt is 20% on a what, 2 minute cooldown? For a talent that competes with SoV in the same talent node?

Plate armor is meaningless. It does nothing against 99% of damage in the game. And ret is outshined in self heals by every other hybrid but Boomkins AND BY SEVERAL NON HYBRIDS.

So is it any wonder Ret players are digging in their heels on the one thing making Retribution enjoyable in the slightest?

Agreed ret is in such a state that it isn’t fun to play, or play against, blizzard just keeps adding % values to things to bandaid rather than actually provide the class with meaningful QOL adjustments. Same with devastation.

i said basically this, that ret requires little to no setup a couple days ago on forum and the usual ppl were like ERMAGERD HURGEN BLOOPEN SHKLURGEN BLARRRRGGGGHHHHH …etcetc

/sigh

the cognitive dissonance on the forum is honestly getting counter productive in recent times. in theory, everyone would want a balanced game cuz ‘fair’ is always the most fun in the long run.

They literally have to blow EVERYTHING to even do that lol EVERYTHING!

Why do ret paladins pretend like enemy team can play perfectly at every second while their team has to play at absolute worst for the entire fight?

Like you know any team can setup unavoidable damage? A rets team can very easily enable them to get their damage out unhindered, A rets team can very easily stop a mass dispel or shattering throw on bubble since you know its coming. Blessing of Sanc is an unbelievably powerful tool to keeping yourself alive and your team on the push.

Why is it always a single ret vs 3 people in every delusional rets mind?

This is the dumbest response ever. No class should have an Offensive Cooldown where you need to run or die…imagine if all classes had a 2min CD that you either run away from or get one shotted let alone one shot your entire team…do you realize how dumb that sounds?
“oh bro just run away from Wings, bro…”

To immediately use a defensive. It’s not very fun, but that’s how it is. Then, try to make distance.

The damage needs to be looked at, but I doubt any changes will be made soon. It’s the only thing keeping Ret viable.
