So, I have a few ideas I would like to share with the community. Most them revolve around the casual aspect of the game such as transmog collecting and other random ideas. They are not in any particular order, so feel free to bounce through them as randomly as they are listed. I am a collector within WoW and currently sitting at about 89% of everything (transmogs, titles, achievements, mounts, and etc) collected on all 12 classes, so these suggestions are from the different areas of the game I am spent a significant amount of time.
Also, if you have any suggestions to add to these, I would genuinely be interested in reading about it. Right now is a good time to brain storm, so any idea is worth talking about (sometimes the best ideas can be derived from the worst ideas).

Deep Dive of Each Idea
1) Continuation of Twisting Corridors. For me Torghast has been the most fun I have had in WoW, so my excitement here may be a bit biased, but I do think there is a lot of potential within this content. First and foremost, I would love to see the Twisting Corridors continue to expand. Lore-wise, I know we made it to the top of the tower, but the Twisting Corridors could also extend far into the Maw. Either way, it was so much fun getting my character to insane power levels to the point where I ultimately change my playstyle as the run progresses. That being said, I would love to see Twisting Corridors extend to a Layer 12 or 16.
There are a couple ideas for rewards here: A) Introduce make the completion of Layer 12 or 16 a mount that can fly in the Maw (similar to the Corridor Creeper being one of the only mounts that could be summoned in the Maw for a short time). Maybe once 9.2 lands, let everyone fly regardless of the mount, but at least this would follow the same model as Twisting Corridors in 9.0.5. B) Introduce Maw / Torghast Themed Class sets or weapons as rewards for the completion of this Layer or further Layers. Perhaps, having ‘normal’ class set for Layer 12, and a ‘mythic’ class set for Layer 16 with weapons transmogs being randomly available from vendors.
9.2: I biggest hope for Shadowlands is that there is a Endless Corridors or Infinite Corridors to run. Balance it around a certain Layer (I don’t know, say 20 or 24), then beyond that, it is all fun and glory!
2) Torghast Transmog. The addition of 40+ shoulders added to vendors in Torghast has been a fantastic way to continue to have a secondary reason to run back complete this content. It would be nice to see this continue for other armor pieces such as head, chest, legs, and etc. Maybe throw in a few weapons that didn’t quite make the Sanctum of Domination cut.
3) Covenant Command Table Balance. I have 19 level 60 characters with a minimum of 4 per Covenant (one for each armor type). And, I can confidently say that the Command Table followers and troops are not balanced with respect to other Covenants. A team of 5 Venthyr and especially 5 Kyrian followers struggle on missions that 2 or 3 Night Fae and Necrolord followers could complete. The troops also vary greatly in power. I know there is a lot of RNG when it comes to which followers are used in combination with which troops, depending on there seated positions, corresponding levels, and the missions themselves. However, I can say without a doubt, I easily can send Necrolords and Night Fae out on twice as many missions as Venthyr and Kyrian. It’s not the end of the world, but it is just not balanced. Also, please set up the default UI such that all followers and troops are accessible with the need to endlessly scroll through the roster.
4) Right / Left Shoulder Transmog. Recently, we were able to transmog left and right shoulders separately, which is nice. However, you are unable to transmog a right-hand shoulder to the left-hand shoulder slot and visa versa. It would just be nice to have a few more of my mail sets with some degree of symmetry about them. An example would be the Mail Necrolord Campaign set and the two different shoulders. I can remove the left shoulder entirely or transmog it randomly to something else entirely different, but I can’t transmog it to look like the right shoulder? It just seems like that if we could transmog mismatching shoulders, that it would be nice to transmog left/right shoulder sets into matching shoulders.
5) Epic / Legendary Pets. So, this one isn’t really specific for 9.1.5, but I thought it be a good idea for those wanting an excuse to continue the hunt for battle pets in the open world. Out of everything relating to Battle Pets, traveling the Universe of Warcraft hunting down various Battle Pets is the most fun I had out of the whole Battle Pet genre of content. It gives me an excuse to get out in the open world, and if I am leveling a character, it gives me a little XP on the side. It gives something to do if I am out farming for a rare. And ultimately, it just gets out into the various zones throughout the game. The unfortunate part is that there is a hard cap (or an ending point) that comes when you get 3 of any pet, thereby eliminating the reason to ever battle pets again in that zone.
However, what if there was a 1 in 100,000 chance of getting a epic pet that was spectral, void, or fel in appearance? Even more so, what about 1 in 1,000,000 chance for a legendary pet that had a flaming spirit or spectral fel appearance? For the most part these would be cosmetic changes only, AND they would not count against your pet limit. For example, if you had 3/3 rabbits and found a legendary rabbit, then you would still be able to capture it (this would just help eliminate unnecessary fustration). I don’t think improving that numerical stats should be applied to this, because some players would feel ‘obligated’ to hunt them down for an edge in Pet Battle PvP. Or, conversely, give them 5% or 10% stat increases, but make them unavailable for Battle Pet PvP. The thought here is to give the player the chance at finding something super exciting while out questing or waiting in queue, or at least a secondary reason to continue doing what they enjoy.
6) Trial of Style Season Sets. So, Blizzard started this at one point, but then randomly stopped as if it was a forgotten project. However, I think Trial of Style is an incredible way for players to show off their transmogs while simultaneously advertising other content throughout the game! In short it is free advertisement for Blizzard for and by the playerbase. Initially, Blizzard gave us a set for the few seasons of Trial of Style which were very simply recolors of sets already in the game – fitting for something meant to be a fun, light-hearted, easy activity. However, they stopped, and when they stopped so did the reasons to continue running that content.
I would highly suggest that not only Trial of Style Season sets be reintroduced, but also they retroactively add sets for the previous seasons. Again, this would be just simply introducing a Ruby recolor of the Jade or Glorious plate set or a recolor of the Warlocks’s Tier 0.5 set (seeing that they recolored the Warrior’s Tier 1 set already). I understand that this is not primary content, nor is it something that most people sit at the edge of their seat anticipating. However, it is content that initiates interest in other aspects of the game while at the same time is fun and light-hearted. In short, it could serve to inspire players to go out collect some of the pieces of gear that they see on other players.
7) I-want-off-this-ride-now. So, I am excited to see the alt friendliness continue to expand in Shadowlands as we heard about the skips that will be available if you have a character that completed the Covenant Campaign and the Korthia Campaign. I would like to remind developers that many people have many more alts that have partial progress through said campaigns. So, I think it would be nice to have an intuitive method for players that are currently partially through any campaign to have the ability to skip the rest. If not, I feel like this would de-incentivize alt development in the future as many players would feel punished for only getting their alt half-way through, when someone else has made no progress is able to complete the entire campaign or activity in an instant (while the initial player still needs to continue the remaining half).
8) Rep Tokens from the Command Table. There is much to this one, but it would be nice to see Reputation Tokens for the Avowed and Venari added to the Command Table. Perhaps making these account-wide would be a nice feature returned from Legion as well. Other thoughts could include BoA Catalog Research tokens, Saved Souls, Korthia Armament, and/or Orbereal Shards.
9) White / Grey Item Transmog. This is also simple. Allow these items to be transmoggable. I believe there are over 1900 items in the game, so a reason to hunt them down may be fun for some.
10) Old Currency Cap Removal. So, for this one, I believe that total currency caps are a relic of the past that was necessary so that the player doesn’t encroach on technical limitations. It has been a control mechanism to solidify certain gameplay. As a philosophy for an MMO environment, it is stifling for the playerbase at best and completely unnecessary if the player is already gated by a weekly restriction.
This is even more important for older expansion currencies such as Elder Charm of Good Fortune or the Mogu Coin which still have a currency cap of 20. If a player would like to spend their entire weekend farming Timeless mobs for a year’s of extra loot coins, then they should be allowed to stock up on year’s worth of Elder Charm of Good Fortune, Mogu Coin, and other currencies. There is no reason that person needs to have a weekly or bi-weekly AFK trip across Pandaria to trade one currency for another before running raids. Likewise in Legion, if someone has taken the time and remember to trade for the Seals of Broken Fate (Legion) or Seal of Broken Fate (BfA) each week, then let them have as many for as many weeks the player remembers to turn in their weekly quest. There is already a weekly cap of 3, let them have a little fun in stocking up 1,000 for a glorious 6 months of transmog hunting! Also, it puts players in the open world gathering the currency needed for these coins, and ultimately that is what we all like to see!
11) MMORPG Quests. This is a bit more a design philosophy point, but recently, I have seen an uptick in the number of quests that would imply the designer has forgotten these quests will be in environments with 1 person or 100 people depending on the server, time of day, time of week, cross-realm grouping, phasing, sharding, and the assumption everything is and will continue to be functioning correctly.
So, let’s get to the problem first, and take an example of one of the ooze quests in Korthia. The quest has you DPS a mob to 30%, then apply the quest’s action button (slime injection I think) to the mob. Seemly, no issue, until someone injects the mob you have, and then you no longer have the ability to use the quest’s action button. This is frustrating for so many people, and it instinctively causes a level of anxiety and contempt when other players are nearby. This is not good for an MMO. Compound that with 30% of a mob’s health being right on the edge of execute range, nearby AoE, intentionally bad behavior, unwanted-but-goodwilled assistance from other players, and Tuesday lag, and your have now designed a terrible experience.
Let me also remind you (as the designer and creator of these quests) that there are people with physical disabilities that play the game. There are some with vastly differing skill sets ranging from running 100+ addons and WA’s to literally clicking on spells. There are people playing on borderline supercomputers while others play on computers that can’t compete with the home thermostat. So, unless you can account for those variances and many more not listed, you have no place pitting players against each other in just a run-of-the-mill open World Quest.
And just be clear, this is not a discussion about quest difficulty. If quest needs to be challenging, then use the proper range of mechanics such as increase the mobs health, increase its attack power, change its resistance to magic or physical damage, give it temporary buffs. However, the difficulty of a quest should not come from nearby adventures seemingly with the same goals in an environment of an MMO’s PvE content.
Finally, as a designer you cannot control the behavior an individual but you can most certainly shape the bulk of the userbase’s behavior. So, when you design two mobs next to a quest item that disappears as soon as anyone clicks on it, do you think that the person fighting two mobs as they watch someone else collect that item is having a good time? Do you see that as being fun? Or do you think maybe that experience just reinforced a negative emotion toward seeing another nameless player in the game? How many quests are like this? There may be excessive negativity toward each other in WoW, but not all of it is unwarranted; in fact, some of it may very well come from years of the playerbase being funneled into environments where players are pitted against each other in just casual, open-world gameplay.
All that being said, if I am going to be bold enough to criticize one’s work, then I can be grateful enough to give credit where credit is due. And, I think over the years, the quests have largely become better – especially starting in WoD, where many quest items didn’t disappear or when herbs and ore stayed for a few seconds longer. In fact, there are many quests in Korthia where, if you need to pick up 5 vessels, they do not disappear for everyone. So, I want to make sure to give credit where it is due, as well as highlight the fact that we have the technology already here in the game. So, there is no reason to see quests where players have to compete and treat each other like savages just to complete a daily.
12) Visually Upgrade Vanilla, BC, and Wrath Transmogs. Personally, I really like the design of the older weapon and armor models. They are unique and contain a lot of potential! However, they are old, pixelated, polygonal, and clunky in appearance. You can still see the stair-step style in color transition as well as the 3-angle polygonal curvature in so many pieces (instead of a simple, smooth curvature) like shoulders and helms. Even if you wanted to mix and match pieces from Vanilla and WoD or BC and Legion, you cannot, because chest piece may have a grand total of 4 pixels while the helm is composed of half a million.
So, I think it would be neat to see a transmog detailing update of all transmogs from Vanilla to Wrath, focusing on smoother color gradients, smoother curvature outlines, and maybe replacing ‘painted on features’ with 3D elements (for example, instead of pixelated screws on mail shoulders, perhaps raised shapes mimicking a screwhead). This would include the green, blue, and epic pieces of gear as well as tier sets. Just to be clear, I think the model and overall architecture should remain the same, just improve the surfacing and coloring.
The World of Warcraft is sitting on a mountain of content from the past decade and a half, and not all of it needs to have endgame relevance in order to be viable content. There are many people in the game that have never stepped a single foot into the Deadmines or Icecrown Citadel, and I believe updating these appearance to match current standards would give many people something to do in between raid / PvP nights or even patches.
13) Server-Wide Account Reagent Bank. I would like to suggest an account-wide bank for players on the same server / merged servers. This bank would hold all reagents such as herbs, ore, skins, flasks, and maybe even BoA items. Players have been doing the equivalent for years with the use of bank alts, guild banks on alts, and other methods. However, it would be nice to see a quality-of-life feature from WoW side, that would allow me place all my reagents into an bank, log over to another character, access the same bank, and retrieve the material.
Furthermore, it would be nice see this available as some sort of ‘Reagent Pocket Portal’ that is accessible the same way we can access the mount list or transmog closet. As a concept, you could click on the ‘Pocket Portal’ tab, and within this tab you would have another set of tabs, one for each expansion that every character on the same server and account could access. This would ease up on the stress on bags a bit. As far as gameplay, anywhere in the world a player would be able to simply open up their bags, and import everything into their Reagent Pocket Portal and go about their day.
14) Custom / Dream Creation Tab. With Warcraft as well as many other MMO’s, there is going to be down time. This comes in the form of waiting in queue, flying from one location to another, and many other forms. The point is that sometimes it is nice to be able to do something in that time such as work on your transmog sets or maybe even make a ‘dream set’ – you know, the whole I-don’t-have-this-yet-but-when-I-do-this-will-be-it sets. And just for added clarity, this should be doable without transmogrifier in SW, Org, or the mount. Just use the transmog closet by adding ‘Custom Sets’ and/or ‘Incompete Sets’ tab.
15) Heirloom Bonuses. So, the concern I have with heirlooms is the fact that 3 of the 4 bonuses would have you log off your character as soon as you burn up your rested XP. Personally, I feel like this clashes with the excitement of making a brand new alt as players would come up with a fantastic name, log in, pick up all the bags and gold mailed from the main, put on the heirlooms, and… log out. Gotta get that rested XP!
Instead, I feel like your heirloom bonuses should be much more immediately exciting (and not necessarily overpowering). For example, let’s say that you put on two pieces of gear, and your alt is randomly assisted by small fire, water, earth, or air element for 30 seconds. However, if you have 4 pieces on, then on rare occasions all four elements join you for a minute!
Furthermore, if you have 6 pieces on, upon completing a quest, you have a stacking buff that increases your movement speed by 10% (or whatever percentage) for 3 minutes (this is the stackable part). So, if you turned in 3 quests at a quest hub, your character would move faster for a total of 9 minutes.
Lastly, if you have 8 pieces on (and let’s be honest, if you have 1 piece of heirloom equiped, then you likely have all 8 pieces equiped), you can drop an anima power that gives you a choice between 2-3 15-minute bonus effect centered around your spells and abilities (where it pulls from a pool of 10+ effects similar to Torghast).
The idea is that creating a new character is fun, and I think the set bonuses should encourage gameplay and build on that excitement instead of 3 of the 4 bonuses making it feel like your are not optimizing (or wasting) your time. The 4th bonus encourages you to stifle play style in order to ‘maximize’ your effect or just shrug it off as ‘oh well’ inducing a feeling of not caring about the bonus. Whereas, these suggestions focus on immediate bonuses, completing quests, and encourage a player to understand their spells and abilities while leveling.
16) Current Currencies. So, in 9.0 we had 1,200,000 Anima and 5,800 Grateful Offerings worth of transmogs, mounts, and etc to purchase. In 9.1 we had 100,000’s Anima worth of more transmogs, mounts, and etc. Honestly, thank you! It is only 9.1, and you all at the office have given us 98 sets alone, much less the 130+ mounts, and everything else. There is so much content to chase after, and I have really enjoyed my gameplay in Shadowlands. However, issues arises with Grateful Offerings, as there were exactly 0 additions for the currency – a currency specifically tied the Anima Conductor in the Covenant Sanctum.
While, many players will still find that they have many more Grateful Offerings to grind out, there is a hard limit to how many can be spent. I tend to find these hard caps like this to be against the nature of an MMO, because if there is no benefit, players will not do the activity even if they really enjoy it. Look at Torghast in 9.0 and Twisting Corridors. So, there should always be some ‘evergreen’ form of spending of a currency once the everything has been acquired. I would like to encourage some sort of an exchange that would be Covenant specific. For example, it would be nice to see that once a player has spent X-amount (implying they have purchased everything available) they will gain the ability to purchase herbs and ore specific to that zone, Orbereal Shards, Covenant currencies (Night Fae – specific Seeds/Catalysts, Necorlords – Malleable Flesh/Superior Parts, etc), or even BoA Grateful Offering Token to send to alts (though the exchange rate would need to be looked into or players may be demotivated to farm them on anything else except their main character).
17) Consumable Portals. I mentioned earlier that I have really enjoyed Shadowlands, but if there has been anything that has been a bit of a downer, it is the amount of travel / AFK time induced by going from one zone to another. And while I can tab out, go get a drink, or whatever else in this time, it would be nice to be able to portal over there – as engineers do now.
So, I would like to introduce the idea of allowing professions to create consumable portals (stackable, of course) to specific zones, but not give this power to just once profession. For example, require jewelcrafters to cut Solenium Ore from Bastion, scribes to enchant Rising Glory for runes, and an engineer to put it all together for a 3-use consumable portal to Bastion. For those unaware, this is already in the game in the form of Attendant’s Pocket Portals that are randomly dug up by your trainees whenever the Calling is up. It just would be nice to give this to those with professions.
18) BoA Follower XP Tokens. While the majority of the player base does not have a full roster of level 60 followers, many will soon. So, it would be nice to see some sort of an achievement that would trigger the Follower XP Tokens to become Bind-On-Account. This would not only encourage continued activity for those looking for more reasons to burn up Anima in the Command Table, it would also encourage the player to continue this gameplay on an alt. Also, it just feels good get a reward and it be useful even on an incremental level.
19) Legion Dungeon Bosses. With BfA content now transitioning from Personal Loot to Legacy, I would like to point out an outlier using the current system. If we kill any dungeon boss in any expansion, it drops two pieces of gear from the entire loot table - except Legion dungeon bosses. With the focus on Legion coming, could we get those dungeons in line with the rest of the game (especially considering half the loot table are relics)? Also, preemptively, could we ensure that BfA dungeons also get the same treatment and drop 2 pieces of gear from day 1?
20) Legendary Transmogs. I found it really interesting that if you craft a legendary, you gain zero permanent progression in the sense of new transmog. Initially, I understand why this was the case. Visually speaking when they were first available, this transmog would completely overshadow Castle Nathria. No problem there. Also, I understand that the black and red appearance is specific to Mythic Sanctum of Domination. So, not getting that appearance is completely understandable and reasonable. We loot gear and transmog from the fallen foes defeated within SoD, and makes sense that most sinister pieces with black armor and a red glow come from the most challenging foes.
However, WE made the legendaries with the ashes and cinders of souls found throughout the Maw and Torghast, so I would like to recommend that players who make this piece of gear also earn transmog fitting of the souls, time, and effort it took to construct this piece. For example, simply take the polar opposite of the mythic transmog. Instead of a black set with a blood-red hue, use an almost white set with a soul-blue hue. Ultimately, it would be neat to chase another color variant type specifically to creating the entire armor set for a legendary set.
21) Achievement: Transmog. I have seen a lot of posts centered around the idea of having more progression achievements for the number of mounts a person owns. Not only do I think this is a good idea, but also one that should be expanded to transmog slots. So, it would be nice to see transmog achievements for 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, and etc for armor slots. Perhaps a meta achievement for all armor slots having 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, and etc that would could potentially reward new set (similar to getting mount for hitting 400 mounts).
22) Korthia Grappling Hook. Some may laugh, but some people really struggle with trying to gather all the Mawshrooms and other treasures on various roots throughout Korthia. There is a massive skill difference within the player base, and what you and I may simply glide through with ease, is frustrating to the point of tears for others. The spatial movement and navigation is extraordinarily difficult for some, and I feel so bad watching a person try for 5 minutes get to a treasure, watch 30+ people get it, and then watch it despawn once they are halfway there. I cannot put into words how bad I feel for those players.
So, I would like to recommend a consumable grappling hook. Give it 1, 3, 5, or 20 usages. Allow engineers, leatherworkers, and blacksmiths to make the components and assemble it. But with Warrior’s Heroic Leap, Rogue’ Grappling Hook, Warlocks’ Portal, and Venthyr’s Door of Shadows, I think we can extend an equalizer for our spatially challenged friends, family, and guildmates. Maybe a tether made by tailors would work, too. Let us pull each other up to the treasure.
23) Rare Bubbles. For any old content rare that drops a pet, toy, or mount, place a bubble that reduces damage by 99.9% for the first 30 seconds of spawning. There is no reason to pit the player base against themselves as they wait for a rare to spawn. Once 30 seconds is up, then it is fair game, and anyone can one shot something in old content. However, just because someone is spamming a macro, or someone has a lagging computer should not affect their eligibility to have a chance of getting loot (keeping in mind this is just for a chance at a chance for the item to drop).
24) Faction Tagging. For the love of God, remove this. It is archaic and punishing for those unlucky enough to get sharded with a ton of people from the opposite faction. If someone is playing with Warmode On, then all is fair. Fight for the mobs, and get that tag! However, if someone is playing with Warmode Off, there is no potential to rectify the problem. And as far as gameplay is concerned, this adds nothing to experience.
25) Mercenary Button. It is time for an option that transcends the whole ‘faction warfare’ for the sake of playing the game. A lot of people work or go to school full time, so when they queue up for a BG, the last thing they want to do is spend 25% to 50% of their time in a queue (many times only to join a losing BG). This would give these players chance to just play in a random BG at the expense of being randomly assigned to one faction or another.
And, yes, I know there is an NPC somewhere in the World of Warcraft that at some unspecified time or queue ratio will randomly start taking applications to be a mercenary. I guess what I am trying to say is that the average player just wanting to play the game isn’t going to have the knowledge or know-how when it comes to the NPC. Mercenary Mode should simply be a button on the queuing list. Simple, to the point, and easy to access.
26) Twisting Corridors Save Point. I know this may be difficult to introduce in a .5 patch, but I think the ability to save your partial progress in Twisting Corridors would go a long way for many. Maybe treat each time you interact with a vendor the same a raid boss, so that if you leave, then you can return and pick up your progress from there.
Twisting Corridors is such fun content, and I really wish more had a chance to play it! However, I know many are just unable to make sure they are locked down to 2 – 3 hours at a time. So, I believe if there was a way to conduct partial progress, it would open the door for many players to at least attempt to complete it over the course of a week or so. Maybe a toy or device to give your temporary immunity / invisibility so that someone could step would be nice to have while in Twisting Corridors or Torghast wings.
27) Reputation for Alts. Many times in discussing good and bad things for each expansion, one of the things I always hear as a positive is Mists of Pandaria’s reputation system. For those who don’t know, when your main became exalted with a faction, you could then purchase a token that would increase the reputation for your alt by 100%. I suspect we never saw this again, because it was too strong.
I would like to see a modified system of this returned based on the number of characters you hit exalted with a faction. For example, if your main hit exalted, your next alt earns 20% extra reputation up to exalted (can’t be fast-tracking your way too easily through paragon levels). Once your second character hits exalted, then your third character would gain reputation with that faction at an additional 40%. Let this continue for as many alts as the player makes. And if a player is able to get exalted in 5 quests because it is their 50th alt, then who cares – let them have fun. By that time, so much time will have elapsed that, any ‘edge’ from getting exalted gear will be gone.
If you are still reading this, thank you. I know it is a lot, and taking it all in may be similar to trying to drink from a firehose. However, I have enjoyed my time in the game as of now, but like anything else there is always room for improvement. At any rate, thank you again for reading, and good luck out there!
