I know the idea is to aim as “whales” to spend loads of money, but honestly, as someone actively wanting to do at least one race-change, there’s just no justifying that price.
$10 seems a much more reasonable price. Not so cheap I’d be doing it ALL the time, but also cheap enough I wouldn’t really hesitate to, either. The moment I had a cool new transmog to put together, I’d be much more inclined.
My Hunter, for example; I chose a Highmountain Tauren, because it seemed like that race “fit” the Hunter best, in terms of overall Lore and themes. However, I’d actually be more inclined to go Orc now, simply because the racial is so powerful, plus I think most armor would look better on him.
But at $10? I might actually make him a Vulpera for a little while, just to see how I like it, particularly in M+. Or go back to Orc. Or maybe even go Blood Elf, if I ever get the Legendary bow, and go full “Dark Ranger” for a bit.
Genuinely recommend looking at the pricing structure, because I think the $10 would be MUCH more enticing.
I agree that race changes are too much. When I get bored with a class a race change will often make me more interested in it for a while. I think my shaman has been all the horde races that can be shaman. Then I think oh god I spent that much on this toon.
What if a cheaper race change came at the cost of racials that aren’t just cosmetic or quality of life things like the vulpera tent?
Work an extra hour at work and buy a race change, it would take you more than 1 hour in game to make 500k so I’d rather sit on the forums at work for another hour.
They’ve sort of kicked the can down the road for years when it comes to changing service prices. One of their ‘fixes’ that allowed them to justify the continued price levels for years was allowing tokens to be converted to Blizzard Balance, which essentially lets them sidestep pricing criticism. Because people can technically buy a race change with gold.
It’s a Catch-22 they benefit from. People who pay a monthly sub are more likely to have the extra cash to just buy a service, while people who would benefit from buying it with gold likely can’t make enough to pay for their monthly sub with gold as well as buy a service. But it’s a fairly ironclad excuse to keep prices as they are.
Just leveling a new character is likely faster than “just grinding up 500k”. Oh I’m sure there’s people that can do it but it’s not that easy for common players.
Honestly, I think $15 is a bit more reasonable, for a race change. Because here’s the thing, I do not want to pay for a name change, I just want the race change and that’s it.
Honestly as much as I’ve benefitted from this cause I can get a lot of gold easily, this is admittedly a VERY convenient excuse for them to keep charging what is pretty absurd prices for stuff.
That said since it is a convenient excuse and they make what I imagine is good money off it, I don’t see it changing.
It’s a tax to prevent you from doing it too often likely born out of the old times when we were supposed to promote community and server faction balance and stuff.
Oh no I don’t at all, after playing for more than 10 years I know absolutely 0 about ANYTHING that is required to make a lot of gold in this game outside of the very obvious sell grays to vendors.
Do you callings etc etc etc but selling boosts is just much faster than any other method I’ve read up on.
Fastest way for me to get gold is Tokens > Boosts > Whatever else people use to get gold nowadays.
Until you can choose between a $25 race change with a ‘free’ name change, and an actual $15 race change without the ‘free’ name change automatically tacked on, no, you’re not “only paying $15 for an actual race change”.
