240Hz beneficial for WOW? G-Sync?

I have a decent gaming rig, but my graphics card is dated (Nvidia GTX 1060). I need a new monitor and was trying to get something that’s better for gaming. I currently don’t do any 4k gaming, so I was looking at some high refresh monitors.

My question is two-fold:

First, is it worth going 240Hz if the games I’m playing are WoW, GW2, New World…or would 144 or 165 be fine? BTW, my current piece of junk is 60Hz, so any of these will be a big upgrade. I’m wondering if I should spend money on the Hz or on other features.

Second, for games like these, how important/helpful is G-Sync?

(EDIT) - I realize that a new graphics card would help out quite a bit, but I’m not in a position to make that purchase at the moment as my current monitor is dying.

Thanks in advance for any help!

With a 1060 id just stick with 144/165hz 1080p the chances of you ever benefiting 240hz in the games you mentioned with that gpu is low unless you just play on the lowest settings for everything. Better off saving the extra money for a better gpu down the road.

I play all the games you mentioned in your post. I have a very solid gaming rig and the problem with WoW and GW2 is they are pretty poorly optimized so you’ll see some dips here and there especially in new areas like Valdrakken(WoW)/Amnytas(GW2). New World its a lot better.

From my experience the jump from 60hz to 144hz was massive. The jump from 144hz to 240hz while noticeable was not as big.

TLDR. 240hz is worth it if you machine can consistently support it. I’d stick with 144/165hz in your situation.

It’s a waste for the most part. Instead of pushing that many frames you’d be better off going with a higher resolution. I’d much rather play WoW on 1440p 144hz than 1080p 240hz.

Just my two cents I’d go with the 144/165hz.

You have a higher chance of being CPU limited than GPU limited in WoW. But even with the best CPU for WoW (7800X3D because WoW loves the cache) there will still be many times when you will be under 100fps. So moving from 144hz to 240hz would be pointless in most of the situations where it would actually matter.

I have a 1440p 165Hz monitor but I keep it at 144Hz because I don’t notice a difference personally. 1440p @ 144Hz is the sweet spot for most people. Great visuals all around for not a lot of money.

Thanks for all the great comments, very much appreciated! Sounds like 1440p at a lower refresh rate may be the ticket here.
