I have tested this. If you try to send mail to a toon of yours that has the SAME first name, the check stops there and prevents you from sending mail, even if the last name is different. I made a new toon with a different first name and was able to send mail to myself. Blizz will need to update the name check to check BOTH the first and last names.
Same, however, i sent it to an alt with a dif name. Then sent it to my other toon and it sent it to my main. Terd priest and terd paladin and terd druid, i tried to send it to the paladin but it went to the priest. same concept as what you said. another example of how its messed up.

Same here. Other players have mailed “Myfirstname Abc” and it actually gets mailed to “Myfirstname Xyz”
Have a feeling this is also related to some settings not saving like chat window filters/channels and addon settings.

I think all of mail is busted.. except money from the AH. 
A friend sent me mail but it never arrived. I posted about it in the Forever dev forum, but they tried sending some mail to both of my characters, none arrived. We’re bnet friends, in game friends, and we were in a party.

You also can’t send it to other random people who happen to have the same first name as you, and get the same ‘you can’t send mail to yourself’ message.

After not being able to send mail from penny ling to penny ming, I tried sending it to a completely different name, and then send it to ming, however it instead went to ling.
Ive been fortunate enough to not have an issue occur.. YET, with sending mail to my alts.

The WOWF mail system MUST always use the complete firstname + SPACE + lastname to find recipients.
When the mail system ignores last names and finds something it is clearly a bug.

Thanks. I did make sure they sent it to the right character name, especially after the first time, and we ran the two tests.
But the issue appears to have been fixed. At least between my alts, I sent myself some mail again and received it. Since then, it appears to be working normally. 
To an alt with the same first name?
Did someone check the auction house for this?
It will use WoW mail in the end as well and these mails should end up at the person who bought the stuff.
No, but that wasn’t my issue. I simply wasn’t receiving mail from another person, to any alt (different names), nor could I sent it to myself.
Now, both appear to be working.
