230 Knowledge points?

Saw a BS advertising in trade with 230 points. How is this possible? He said just normal stuff and treasures. I spent over an hour farming packs and dirt and got nothing at all. What am I doing wrong that people have such a massive advantage?

Good question, i have been mining for the last 2 hours with no knowledge drops at all. Not sure what the deal is.

There are a lot of weekly and a lot of one-time sources of knowledge points. If you haven’t been keeping up on the weekly ones, you’ll be a bit behind, and if you haven’t sought out the one-time sources you’ll be quite a bit behind (but can catch those up easily enough).

Check out the guide(s) on wowhead - there’s a lot to know about knowledge point accumulation.

Did you do all the related quests from week 1? I’m pretty sure everyone could have at least 200 by now with the pvp crafted stuff. It wouldn’t be cheap by any means .

Drops appear to be diminishing returns chances of getting drops which has been the case for the last couple expansions. I don’t know if the % chance resets daily, bi-weekly /w WQ reset, or weekly.

I noticed an increase directly after the reset, then nothing. It felt like an 80%/50%/20%/1% drop rate decline.

I got like 6 points last night so i’m total at 30 but all of a sudden…NOTHING and i mean NOTHING at all. I’m only level 63 on the alt i’m doing my mining with but i’m starting to wonder how to get knowledge points if you don’t get it mining?

Grab handynotes, it has the treasure locations to give point upgrades. Also has the secret trainers that give 5ish just by finding and talking to them. Then unlock your empower node ability with 1 point and use that on each type of windswept, frigid node etc, that all gives points as well.

Thank you i will have to give this a try.

230 in Blacksmithing skill?

That’s easy I’m sitting at 267 if I’m crafting shields which I have maxed.

If he has 230 knowledge points thats completely different.

That’s really hard to do if he got it from treasures then he was farming a lot of them prior to blizzard nerfing the dragonshard DR. Right now we don’t have enough knowledge points to get all of the recipes from blacksmithing some of them would be impossible to get just because of the point investment to buy them.

That or he did the profession swapping exploit for rep to get the books and the free dragonshards you got.

Definitely knowledge. Blew me away.

Yeah I’m blown away as well.

So if he learned all the recipes from the first 3 trees in blacksmithing he would need 235 knowledge points and even then he wouldn’t be crafting anything past t2 or t3 because his actual skill wouldn’t be high enough.

If he was advertising 230 skill and t5 crafts then he would have had to farm a butt load of dragonshards of knowledge from treasures before blizzard nerfed them because after the initial free ones you get the rest only give 1 knowledge point.

Right now im sitting at 155 knowledge points with all of the pvp armor done and with 4 dragon shards used past the first couple of free ones you get. Though I think I missed the first week of profession quests because I didn’t have 70 BS which I think means I missed on 6 skill points.

I’m also missing 10 skill points from some Obsidian Seared items because I don’t specialize in those so no one wants to waste materials on a t3 when you can get a t5.

I’m at 233 knowledge points in Leatherworking, with 5 points still to get this week. With some professions, like Engineering, the weekly quests only give 2 skill per quest, so your knowledge point progress in those may vary. There’s a helpful weak aura to track the non-quest sources of knowledge per week that I’ve linked below.

Oh thanks for this. 230 is insane still. I think im sitting around 90. Feels so far behind. They should allow you to catch up on the weekly hand in quests like sparks.

Edit: @Hambrick. Dude that weakaura. I actually love you.

It is in terms of costs. It’s another system designed for the .1% and be a gold sink to a very hefty gold sink for everyone else.

I kind of agree. I lost 40k gold on alchemy 2 days ago then made 80k (Like 4hrs herbing). They created another lottery system with the lariat recipe plus the early launch rep exploits and Dragon knowledge thing. I feel like they should let people at least catch up with any missed out weeks quest hand ins or items. In 2 more weeks I may be able to start making money crafting.

Edit: I quoted myself. :skull: :skull_and_crossbones: :ghost:

^^It’s just a matter of simple business principles. If your competitors costs are much lower then yours you will be strained to make a profit. You pretty much have to go all in immediately to not fall behind. Perhaps there are some niches out there that are handsomely profitable, however, those probably wont last too long as people keep gathering points and notice some…say shield guys…are making bank. They’ll pump their points into shield craft too decreasing demand for established shield crafters.
