To bring Mists of Pandaria Classic chat channels and channel usage in line with other versions of World of Warcraft, we will soon be adding a chat channel entitled “Services” to MoP Classic. Players can enable the Services chat channel and use it specifically for advertising services such as portals and summons. Beginning with the addition of the Services channel, all such advertising must be posted to this channel, and player chat of these kinds placed in other public channels are subject to player reports and actions taken by Blizzard. For further information regarding in-game advertising and the use of these channels, please go here: https://us.support.blizzard.com/en/help/article/187406
Developers’ note: The Trade channel that’s been in the game will continue to exist, but we wanted to add a new channel to direct messages about the request and advertisement of services like raiding, dungeons, or PvP activities. If you’re looking to buy or sell these kind of services, this is the channel for you! If you’re not interested in those, you can leave the channel and avoid the noise, or move it into its own chat tab. We believe that with this distinction, you’ll be able to use Trade chat for its traditional purposes of buying and selling items, seeking out profession services, and other non-disruptive chatter.
To join or leave the Services channel, players can type “/join Services” or “/leave Services”, or use the Channels UI by right clicking on the General chat tab, clicking Global Channels, and selecting from the available options.
Developers’ note: Unlike the modern version of World of Warcraft which requires you to be in a capital city to join or leave this channel, you can join the Services channel from anywhere in the world in all versions of WoW Classic.
Great. Can you make it so new characters aren’t placed into the channel by default? It’s a really bad look for a new character [or worse, a new player] to enter a city (or in Classic’s case with this new channel, just entering the game) and get flooded with “WANT TO BUY CARRY SERVICES? WE SELL FOR CHEAP!” and links to dodgy sites from level 1 monks.
Remember people complaining, ANY information from them is better than none. This public forum is rarely posted in and you can tell why.
I for one welcome this change, moreso than them taking away 10 achievement points because they couldn’t just let Jogu being too drunk to predict accurately make more sense. All they had to do was leave it alone as a joke or add a flavour text saying his predictions may not be accurate due to the booze or something like that…
Is this channel active for anyone else? It doesn’t work for me. /join services does nothing, clicking the “join” button in the UI leads to “Invalid channel name”. I posted to bug forum.
