I mean… why are you not just going to auto convert them to timewalking tokens? If they will have zero use whatsoever after this weekend you’re really just going to let them sit there if people don’t log in?
Nah, that’s a bad idea. It’s a “Rich get richer” thing. The same people could win over and over (I know, because I did) and get more and more mounts, making it even harder for anyone else to win.
It was a terrible event and I literally let my subscription lapse over the holiday due to what a snooze-fest it was. You created a minature comic-con full of all the unwashed bodies and named cameos possible. After the shine wore off moments later the events were bland, repeatables abysmal, and good lord do I even have to mention Blackrock? Next Anniversary could you hire some people who actually participated in WoW and not just hollow NPCs with lame 1-liners stolen from memes?
This is useful information, thanks. Just the same I like keeping a couple of any given currency around as kind of a memento that I was there for a given event on a given character. Even if I know it’ll never be used again, looking at the currency tab for my older characters shows me what they’ve been through more surely than warband achievements.
Originally I was critical of this event but given I was able to earn all I needed without doing Dorn dailies and to finish thanks to the earn amounts from the detective and guest relations questlines I think the 20th anniversary was a success and I thank Blizzard for the way they ran it.
I appreciated the various ways to earn the currency, I appreciated how it became farmable so I can re-do what I most enjoyed rather than being forced to do activities that were less enjoyable. I appreciated how it all ended up structured with the one-time guest relations+detective + the weekly quests + the repeatable earnings from the raid, dungeon, timewalking, world bosses.
I do sincerely hope that even if all the rewards don’t return next year and in other “off” years that Blizzard considers putting the pavilion back up outside the caverns of time with the food vendors, the lorewalker cho events, the fashion frenzy, the mount competition, the vista portals, the balloons one can ride, etc as an annual thing. It’s a great deal of effort the team put in and it makes the holiday a bit more meaningful and engaging than it’s traditionally been. They could still have world bosses and tasks that reward timewarped badges instead and the incentive for scaled loot suitable for gearing alts could be there.
I also admit to enjoying Korrak’s revenge so hope that continues to be available.
I’d also really enjoy seeing Chromie’s dungeon return as I found that very fun and would do it again for timewarped badges and a chance at gear for alts. That was truly a well designed activity and I appreciate it as something that was more than just doing regular rotation timewalking dungeons or a re-tuned raid (which was also interesting and fun, “I AM THE EMPEROR” - great delivery of a line).
I am somewhat annoyed by the fact I wasn’t able to get about 7 of the weapon looks from the Chromie’s Goodie Bag despite farming and participating in the Chromie dungeon and other events quite extensively. I wouldn’t have minded the ability to buy those being added at the end of the event for the currency as I fear the dungeon and thus rewards may not return for 5 years (if ever). Or at least some bad luck protection. Even doing it repeatedly on max-geared alts who were getting warbound drops they didn’t get these looks which is disappointing to me as a collector.
Just a question but will the timewalking version of Blackrock Depths remain as the timewalking raid whenever classic timewalking comes around as part of the rotation or was it exclusively limited to the anniversary event?
2.5 months to get all the rewards you needed, in which you could get them all in a few weeks is somehow FOMO?
Only Stratholme are the ‘cata versions’ when it comes to classic timewalking. That being said I would’ve preferred the vanilla versions of Shadowfang Keep and / or Ragefire Chasm etc with an updated loot table. Like they did with Deadmines classic.
Both wings of Dire Maul that were chosen along with Zul’farrak are the same as they were in vanilla as they never got changed in Cata, MoP nor WoD. Although Dire Maul: West did get some changes that allow you to skip straight to Prince for some reason.
The only vanilla dungeons that got changed in either of those expansions were
Cata:
Deadmines
Shadowfang Keep
Stormwind Stockades
Stratholme (although it is only cosmetic changes, such as model changes to the scarlet enemies and Rivendare. With the only mechanic change being to Balnazzar which got rid of his first phase)
Wailing Caverns (maze got removed)
Temple of Atal’Hakkar (top and bottom floors were removed. Leaving only the middle floor)
Zul’Gurub (vanilla raid) and Zul’aman (TBC raid) were also changed in Cata but those are raids, not dungeons.
MoP:
Scarlet Monastery wings (changed from 4 to 2. With Armory and Library merging into Scarlet Halls. Monastery and Graveyard merged into Monastery)
Scholomance
Ragefire Chasm
WoD:
Upper Blackrock Spire (no longer connected to Lower Blackrock Spire)
I came back recently for this event and basically got to catch up on two expansions. I enjoyed the catch up system in the anniversary btw… nicely done.
There might be somethings I disagree with both expansions but I think there was a lot of nice things going on there. It just sucks that some of the more disagreeable things can overshadow the rest of these expansions.
First and foremost… I don’t know who has been doing the music there lately but wow. Emerald Dream onward (All of TWW) have been really hitting a chord with me. Not to say that the entirety of DF music was not good but still from that point mentioned moving forward really resonated with me. Surprised no one is getting recognition for this. (I do understand we all have different tastes but I wonder if Blizzard has been listening to praise about other MMO’s music and it influenced this…)
Second, I been loving a lot of these neat designed creatures everywhere. DF and TWW. TWW actually had such a bizarre looking creature that it caught me off guard but I was totally down with this. I shouldn’t have to say what it is. It has been nice when it seems like the team is allowed to get outside the box with some of this stuff. Now if they could only be doing this with Allied races and races in general that might actually cause a real interest with the customers.
Story is going better places with TWW. I don’t know if it is because Chris Metzen was allowed some sort of creative position and if that has anything to do with the story (because I really don’t know…) but, the story feels cohesive and like an actual fantasy story. So whatever is going on there… keep that up.
Lots of the maps are interesting there is beautiful work done there. Honestly I felt like there was a lot of great work done all over and I felt the need to say I appreciate it all. I didn’t get to check out too much of the dungeons and raids tho. I did do the most recent raid… it seems like they are still going strong so that is nice.
Either way I think there is a lot of nice work going on and I was enjoying myself. If they continue to move in this direction they might be able to get some recognition again finally… and that is something I would like to see. As long as it well deserved.
I was hoping there would at the very least be a vendor or a way to convert tokens into badges after the event ends just in case people can’t make it in time due to real life circumstances.
Why not convert them automatically to Timewarped Badges when the event ends? It would help players that can’t log in for a few days for whatever reason, and it would also benefit those who are unaware of this post and of how many tokens they still have left.
