2023 Recent Actions Against Exploitative Accounts: Playerbase Review, Is Botting still a Problem?

I don’t want to think of how miserable the gameplay would be for me (real actual carbon-based aerobic life form) if I couldn’t abuse the Z-axis to fly under instances and loot treasure chests, or out in open world mining ores.

So you agree with soda not being perma banned when the rest of us would be if we did the same thing?

That is not anywhere close to what I said.

I know you’re luke warm IQ at best but you literally can read what I said.

How does wowtoken affect botting lmao?

Want to get rid of bots?
Perma ban gold buyers and ban GKDPs.

Remove the need for gold and people will stop buying it.

Serious question. Why remove an auction based loot system if we can just remove gold though? It’s useless really. Pocket change for pocket items and then nothing outside of bidding in gdkps.

Here is my POV.

In essence, there is really nothing wrong with GDKP as a loot system itself… It is has some major pros to it. People do tend to stick around till the end, as they get payout.

And there’d be nothing wrong it if there weren’t insane level of RMT. It is no secret that some people buy insane amounts of gold. It is also not a secret that all major GDKP leaders, as they get % admin cuts, they re-sell that gold back to players. There is been a lo of leaked Bene and Faerlina GDKP discord screeenshots of high rank people offering to sell gold to newly joined members.

(Looking at Pagle GDKP discord that I have added, there are easily 20+ runs/week. Let’s say an avg pot is 200k, with 10% of admin cut. That’s 20kx20=400,000 gold to admins every single week. Where do you think that gold goes?)

Unfortunately, the amount of raw gold in the economy is insane. There are a lot of people who have millions of gold. And they don’t RMT. At least not anymore. But a lot of newcomers feel pressured into RMT due to heavy GDKP culture in Classic community. There are almost zero MS>OS runs. 19/20 pug runs are GDKPs.

Absolutely no new player can get into the game and farm up enough gold to even get a single 264 token, let alone a trinket. They swipe. They are encourged/pressured/bullied into swiping in order to get any gear.

There are people who don’t RMT. Of course. I’ve never said that all GDKP folks RMT. God no. But there is enough people buying gold to make it worthline for all the 10’s of thosands of bots to keep going

Ultimately, all these RMTers buy gold for GDKP purposes.

So B;izzard needs to either perma ban all buyers, regardless of streamer privileges, or they need to ban GDKPs, as that will not end up in banning 10’s of thousands of players, but MS>OS runs will again still be a thing.

Or, 3rd option, they need to bring Personal Loot in earlier.

With personal loot there is still RMT, you can still pay guild an insane amount of gold or $$$ and get loot traded. That’s how it is on Retail. But at least that kind of RMT does not really have such a crazy impact on a casual andy who just wants to raid once a week.

It’s a big wall of text, but I hope it makes it a little clearer.

  • I’m not against players who do not RMT.
  • GDKP has its perks. But unfortunately it creates a very bad culture around pugging.
  • Blizzard really needs to start perma banning all buyers. Tons of streamers openly admit to buying gold and telling their viewers to do the same, as there are no repercussions.

There’d be zero problem with GDKP if it was just players farming their own gold and, in-essence, trading their time for gear. That’s a fundamental aspect of MMO design. The entire issue of GDKP is the real money gold buying and selling, as you said.

Blizzard has straight up either allowed gold buying to take place in public, or they turn a blind eye to it because it’s a “streamer”, so they’ve ruined the integrity of the game on their own. They might not expressly allow gold buying, but Blizzard does not punish it. This can only lead players to believe that Blizzard has determined it’s more profitable to allow it than not. Anyone who believes these “Actions Against Exploitative Accounts” are anything more than a show put on by Blizzard is sorely mistaken.

Yeah. You’re not wrong.

Blizzard dropped a big one on this. That’s for sure.

I only hope that with Cata prepatch they clean up the trash.

When one of the biggest WoW streamers gets caught buying gold and doesn’t even get 1 day suspension, you know this is all a joke and where Blizz’s priorities are.

Until he is perma banned I wont believe any actions taken on bots or cheaters are permanent like they should be.

I know soda is a big WoW streamer but he made his choice no matter how much he says he regrets it. He is a big gambler IRL too so a person like him in any game is bound to buy currency.

it would be if they say did mass banwaves, refused to appeal because Jerry over on Whitemane said so.

There was a banwave that caught up Linux users as having been “botting” couple years ago. They moved really fast on that because well…it’s stupid to lose paying customers because of your mistake.

You know no matter what you say or how many people say it, blizzard is just going to keep doing what they always do. Ignore it, and move on.

Player created issues aren’t Blizzard’s fault and they didn’t have many options to fix this situation.
Clearly the majority of players isn’t interested in fighting for summoning stones (muh wpvp) or an inexistant player pool for their raid teams so they congregate on faction specific servers as it fixes both those issues.
You will now write something in the lines of “if you don’t wanna pvp don’t roll on the pvp server!!!”. Cool, the issue is that the pve server has half or less than half the playerbase and there’s only 1-2 of these per region. Why would you willingly roll there if you want to have anything resembling a player pool for your guild or to just pug? You wouldn’t.

The solution was war mode but that’d cause so many classic andrews to poo their pants they didn’t even bother trying.

  1. I don’t care, I raid log.
  2. I don’t care, I don’t go outside of Dalaran except for raids.

  4. I don’t care, I don’t do bg’s.
