2020 and casting still requires standing still

I remember when WoW was innovating. Now its stagnant. I cant think of a more outdated mechanic in gaming than casters standing still

How to avoid this:

  • Play a class that don’t have casting skill
  • Profit

But seriously, some casters deal more damage having to cancel skills to move than some classes that don’t have casts at all. If they remove this, they would nerf all casting skills.

Didn’t Warlocks get a Talent in MoP that let them cast on the move?

I miss being able to move and cast lightning bolt.

Imo they could just put a cost on it to prevent kiting, like during casting you could toggle and play with say, 30% cast speed while moving to prevent interupts, or pausing the cast bar while moving but preserving the progress. So say a 1.8/3.6 second pyroball wouldn’t be lost on the move and could be recast on the move.

All casters had way more mobility in MoP but they became almost god like so Blizzard nerfed caster mobility.

My Sorcerer and Necromancer in another game can not only fire off multiple abilities at the same time but do it all on the run. It’s fun AF and being able to cast on the move doesn’t make them OP gods. Maybe blizz should finally sort out how to balance classes and these kinds of things wouldn’t be such a problem.

Then don’t play a caster. In PvP, balance druids are hardly staying still and spamming MoonFire, Sunfire, and starburst while sometimes standing still to either cast solar wrath and lunar strike.

Casting pushback.

Well arent you a visionary. Thanks Bill Nye, but I was speaking on wow as a whole. Obviously I could roll a melee. ITs not about me, or you though.

Casters moving is not just a simple mechanic, it changes the entire design of the game. Raid mechanics are built with casters having to be standing to cast in mind. PvP is build with that idea as well.

I’m surprised people don’t remember how OP casters were in MoP, specially warlocks.

We did thanks to the mighty Xelnath.

If casters could move with no penalty, why would you ever bring a melee?

No thanks I like standing still and casting. Who wants to run and cast? Boring

You think you do but you dont

Well, they could also make mana costs increased so DPS casters can also run out of mana if they spam skills.
The only class I can remember that suffers from it is Arcane Mage, and let’s say it is not the most liked mage spec nowadays…

There are quite a few other games that have figured this out. I agree with OP, it feels outdated.

Thought the OP wanted WoW to be different and not just copy others.

My issue is spell push back combined with standing still. Standing still I can deal with. Push back shouldn’t be there as a double whammy.

Casters have taken hits to mobility in the past few xpacs and that sucks, but the bigger factor is how content (both PvE and PvP) has become increasingly focused on movement. Caster mobility isn’t in the worst shape it’s been in (vanilla, TBC, and WoTLK were worse) – it’s the fact that you die if you’re not constantly dancing around that’s the real issue. When you’re forced to choose between eating dirt and low damage output, you’ve got problems.

So something has to give. Either movement needs to be less emphasized or casters need to be adjusted and rebalanced to be able to do more damage on the move.

No nothing will be adjusted and nothing will change except the people with the problems will get over it

The combat mechanics have progressed way beyond where turret casting should be a thing. Probably a big reason why resto druid does so well in m+, they’re still fairly effective while on the move.
