For these new servers Blizzard PLEASE just tweak ret paladin a LITTLE. Not SOD level but enough to make us not a total meme. TWENTY years of ret paladin like this. We’ve been through WoW Vanilla, we’ve been through classic, we’ve been through SoM, so for the TWENTITH anniversary realms please make small adjustments.
The #NoChanges elitist crowd came and went in 2019. Especially when certain things were changed because classic wow is NOT perfect. Especially in this case. We had 20 years of warrior and mage being the only viable damage dealers in the game.
The most minor tweaks that would be needed:
Remove the “undead only” targeting for exorcism/holy wrath
Hammer of Wrath is instant cast + reduced mana
Give us 1 (ONE) (SINGLE) (MAYBE TWO) abilities. Either the BC version of Crusader Strike or SODs Divine Storm.
It’s time. This is it. It doesn’t have to be like SOD where everything has major changes with 7+ rune slots. Just 3-4 tweaks, maybe 1-2 spells just to put us in the MEDIUM bracket.
We had our classic run, Blizzard. For Classic classic let the rets just breathe a little bit. The OG team back in 2004 and 2006 realized this when TBC came out and they made those adjustments to not make paladins a one trick pony.

Just because you have a spec doesnt mean it needs to be viable in end game pve content

You dont see BM hunters crying

Mages, Rogues, and Hunters have viable DPS specs.
Paladin doesn’t.

Ret is a talent tree that accentuates the classes inherent strengths, which are healing/supporting
because paladin is a healer/support class

there are no “specs” in vanilla, only talent trees that accentuate a classes intended role. think of them as the “cherry on top”

This is insane levels of cope btw. RETRIBUTION is the DPS specialization for paladin. It is obvious the devs in 2004 made the tree with it in mind that this is meant to be speced into for people who want to deal DAMAGE. You’re lying to yourself

they never designed any of the trees with endgame raiding in mind. they are merely ways to spice things up a bit either by leveling or offering some ways of playing into a classes strengths
