Maybe. Maybe not. If it does last that long it will have to evolve with its market.
We’re getting to the point that it’s a coin flip as to whether or not WoW will outlast me.
I just can’t wrap my head around a company being able to pour the money and man hours into a game that will have the depth of wow simply because of its age.
I’d love a fresh coat of paint on a few things, sure. Pet battles alone has more depth then some online Pokémon knockoffs…
i will likely be dead by then so i wont know. at this point i think i will be able to finish the worldsoul story before my body gives out and i cant do it anymore. i reckon the end of worldsoul would be about the same time as my retirement (not from the game, from work)
we shall see what happens after that
Wow is not the same as it was many years ago. Pretending wow won’t change is just dumb talk.
I hope they wake up and modernize…
Same game…Better look.
Alas, they seem to have the disney/pixar
format firmly grasped…and are moving
even more inthat direction.
Too bad!
Provided my health holds out, I’ve got ten years to retirement. I’d bet that WoW is still a going concern at that point.
If it’s not, well, I’ll probably have grandchildren to annoy.
Wow that’s a long time I’ve been gone for about a year and a half maybe 2 years but I played since the beginning itself but it’s good to be back I hope things will be better this time and for everyone else as well
WoW has been massively profitable for its entire lifespan
Wrong, we know they have announced the next 3 expansions, We do not know the game will last that long.
Same question that the people ask God " Why don’t you end Earth since there are too many wars , bad people , and disease ? " God would say " Long as souls are still coming to Earth , there no need to end Earth . " Same with Blizzard , long as players are still playing WoW , there is no need to End WoW .
Idk i see earth as a punishment. Life is suffering. It’s why the saying “Don’t pity the dead” is a thing.
cause its spaghetti code from the early 2000s optimized for potato pcs. while there have been improvements its still pretty much the same and limited on what improvements can even be done. im banking on being dead before 20 years so idc
Are you a programmer?
No? Then what the hell would you know?
Yes? Then have you seen the code?
No? Then you should know better.
Yes? Then you must be working for Blizzard and should probably not be saying such things on the forums.
You already admitted that there’s been improvements. Why on earth would you believe there can’t be any more improvements over the next 20 years?
Good rule of thumb: Don’t assume the difficulty of something you know nothing about.
If they can keep WoW, or at least the Warcraft franchise itself, alive for another 20 years following technological advancements in the future, that’s great by me. As long as they do a good job.
LoTRO keeps chugging along with a team of like 60 people working outside Boston (who also develop and maintain DDO) and an active playerbase of like…10,000-15,000 at most? WoW’s not going anywhere.
if i take out the screen and where the batterys go in the original brick gameboy and give it a rechargable battery and a better screen then there are improvments. doesnt mean the hardware/coding got any better or is able to improve anymore. just because something has improved doesnt mean it can improve every single time throughout time. things have limits and as ion has pointed out so often most of the limits to things tend to be related to the early code. sure ion lies most of the time but out of everything he has ever said thats probably the only thing he hasnt lied about. unless you have seen the code you probably shouldnt talk either
I haven’t seen the code no, but I do know for a fact that that the game can be improved over the next 20 years. How much it can be improved, and in what way, I can’t say. But I was never making any definitive claims other than the game will improve in “some way” over the next 20 years, and unless the game shutters before then, it definitely will.
so you just ignored the part where i said its limited on what improvements can be done? i never said its done and capped out theres no room. i said its limited on what can be done which you havent disagreed with either you just said some way rather than limited
What’s a limit today, may not necessarily be a limit tomorrow. Technology and knowledge are always expanding. What’s spaghetti code today, could be a clean line of code tomorrow with a rewrite (perhaps AI assisted). If you wanna be a negative Nancy, I can’t stop ya, but I tend to have a more forward thinking world view.
