They say Microsoft will carry Blizzard’s game for another 20 years. Is it just me or does that sound a little weird? In 20 years PC games will have evolved a great deal, and wow will stay the same, with the same old graphics and gameplay? Do you think it will work out for WoW?
You know, back in WotLK, the Lich King fell and I thought “Well, I guess WoW is probably going to end soon.” Here we are 16 years later with a bunch of changes I honestly couldn’t have imagined at the time.
It’s possible WoW will crash and burn before the next 20 years are up. It’s also possible they will continue to change the game in unforeseeable ways. Only time will tell!
If there is one lesson I’ve learned over the years… just try to enjoy the moment. You spend so much time looking toward the next thing, you end up looking back after a few years wishing you enjoyed what was. And that time goes quick.
I do not think wow will survive as bloated as it is for 20 years. And you really can’t get rid of people’s tmog/mounts/toys/other. I believe that wow will be forced to change (too much lag to continue/to overburdened).
They may choose to leave the game as is, not really reiterating but just launching other/older versions.
Or they may try and develop a new wow. A wow2 so to speak.
I have no idea how much longer wow goes on. We know they’re going for 3 more expansions. So, it’s not shutting down soon. But what about 5 more how about 10 more. I do think something is going to break just no idea when.
Who says this? I think if Microsoft were to see the game becoming increasingly unprofitable at some point, they will make the decision how to deal with that issue then.
The 20-year line was said at blizzcon.
Considering that like 90% of people who play are addicted and they wont leave so yea ill say it will work out for the next 20 years
I will most likely be dead so I’m not too worried about it. But if I am still around I will still be here with my herd of gnomes.
(yes, I’m old lol.)
They say a lot of things. That’s a long time in the future. A game this large is very expensive to keep online. To shrink it would be a very expensive engineering project. This is not a charity. It needs to stay profitable.
Mistakes have been made. The same managers are for the most part still in charge. We have no way of knowing how well they will be able to fulfill Microsoft’s goals for its future. And basically, neither does Ion.
Why would WoW stay the same? It certainly isn’t the exact same game it was 20 years ago when it launched. Even graphically it’s improved a great deal. So why on earth would you think it would stay the exact same game with no graphical improvements 20 years from now?
We only have 20 years of WoW history to go on. Based on that… ?
Will a bunch of 60+ year olds be interested in playing those new evolutions of gaming, or will our tired eyes and sore hands and old attitudes want to just stick with whats familiar? No doubt some will move on, others probably not.
Also, how much has gaming really evolved in the last 20 years? We’re still here playing WoW after 20 years already, with no real innovation in the genre to give us a better option. And right now there’s not even anything on the horizon that looks signigicantly different.
EQ1 is still going, so yes WoW will be fine. So long as WoW keeps making Blizzard money. WoW willo continue to be developed.
DONT YOU DIE ON ME!!!

I know that when I try newer games I’m often impressed by the quality of the graphics, and I wish WoW had the same quality. And that impression will only get MUCH worst in 20 years.
Over the past 20 years PC games have evolved a great deal, and wow largely stayed the same, with improved graphics and gameplay.
In 20 years we’ll be playing a highly advanced version of WoW where NPCs are controlled by advanced AI.
What’s more, the systems will mimic the “human experience” by kicking you from parties for no apparent reason, insinuating they had intimate relations with your mother, and typing in caps when you wipe for the first time on an unreasonably oversized trash pull.
WoW’s graphics are great. The problem I think you’re having is the art style. No matter how much WoW’s graphics improve, it will always have a cartoony art style. It’s never going to be photo realistic like some games… and that’s ok! Everyone has different tastes. Not everyone is going to share your impressions or opinions. I guarantee you there will be brand new games in 2044 that have cartoony art style graphics, so WoW isn’t going to be some lone wolf in that regard.
The ever present omnipotent “they”
I am going my best lol.

PS: Don’t get old, it’s not fun.
Well, I cannot say what will come in the next 20 years. Hell, I cannot say what will come in the next week and such. I take it one day at a time so to speak. For all I know, I could end up dead tomorrow or in the next hour due to something outside my control.
Instead of looking far ahead, I tend to focus on the here and now and only thing I may do ahead of time is save money well enough to make sure I got my bills paid off for the next few months, among other things I prepare for.
