Is RNG just being RNG or have the drop rates of collectables been stealth nerfed again?
Edit: having made this post, I felt obliged to gather more data and so spent the evening running 20 more islands (all normal difficulty) … it got off to a slow start with another 5 runs with nothing to show for it, but then my luck turned and I ended up with 1 quest, 3 pets, 2 greens (both new for my collection) and 2 blues (1 new) … which is back to exactly the expected number of drops given my past data. So it looks like I have to conclude it was just RNG being RNG and I’m whiny and impatient.

1 in 20 doesn’t sound bad to me?
According my log, since the dubloon change, I’d never had more than 8 runs between drops of some kind before. I don’t run a huge number of islands, but I would like to reach a couple of goals before I quit them entirely.
( on my 26th run, I got a pet drop … alas, a duplicate going on the AH for 1/50th the price of the last one I need for the “I’m just here for the pets” achievement )
How about 0 drops since the start of BFA? I’m not going back into that casino.

There’s no pattern to be found for RNG rolls. You could get 10 island drops in a row, or get zero drops for 50 island runs, and the chance of each item dropping per island is still the same. Because each drop in each island is a roll independent from the rest.
the rng is low with this one.

True, true. According to my logs, since the last patch there have been an average of 0.4 drops per run and a 30% chance (well 29.5) that a run contains at least one drop. That, assuming no changes have been made, puts of the probability of a run of 20 straight runs without a drop at somewhere in the ballpark of 1-in-1000 which I felt was unlucky enough to justify indulging in a little public sulking with my forum aquaintances.

Seems increased (or normal) to me. I get a lot of pets and mogs. Although I have yet to get a mount.

I do believe they nerfed the drop rate. I have had the same luck ever since 8.1.5.
I’ve gotten a new pet probably every 4 to 5 islands over the last 60 or so I’ve done.
MUCH better ratio than when I started doing them late last summer. I wouldn’t get ANYTHING back then.
If anything rewards need to be given less. People are already spoon fed epics around every corner.
I’m over 500 islands and still have 4/5 toys, 2 mounts (total) and I’m still missing 6 pets
I’ve done a handful of IE’s, and only gotten a few greens. Little did I know, people were going head over heels for a good chunk of them. I vendored a couple before I randomly checked the AH and realized the item I had was going for 100k gold. I felt a little dumb.
Positive no mounts, fairly certain no pets. Can’t bring myself to want to do them anymore though. I was on the hypetrain when I heard about ‘em, but it fell flat once the realization clicked in they’re not overly exciting.
No clue to the answer for your query though OP. Just putting my two cents on the table to contribute to the conversation.
What difficulty are you running? Because if your spam running norm your already doing the difficulty with the lowest drop rates… i find on heroic i get drops pretty regularly, whether or not i already have the item is another story tho
For a couple weeks I was getting 2-4 pets a week just completing the quest. Now… one out of twenty is close to what I see.
IMHO it’s gone from one bad extreme to an almost as bad extreme. There needs to be more consistent Doubloon drops and some raid consumables you can purchase. Maybe even put some of the rarer drops on the vendor for a lot of coin.

Yet they say their rewards on IE’s are “Robust”!
Or was that PVP? Can’t keep all their lies straight.

No the pvp excuse is something along lines of “pvp players are too dumb to figure out how a vendor works”
That is better luck than what I had before I quit doing them. These are rough numbers but about 2000 isles for the 1st mount, 1500 for the 2nd, 1500 for the third, was still missing 1 toy, 2 quest items, and 10 pets before I quit doing isles.
Well that’s disheartening
