Hey, as someone whose been tanking a lot and hasn’t been up on warrior dps since BFA, I have a quick question about both Arms and Fury.
Arms first. I looked up some guides and asked questions to other warriors in town that I see with better gear/IO than me and am getting conflicting results on when to use moral strike.
Some say keep it on CD at all times. When it comes up, hit it. Others say to wait to use it once you have 2 stacks of overpower. (Not sure what the talent is called.)
If I use it on CD is it a higher dps gain than waiting for 2 overpowers? Conversely if you want to wait for 2 overpowers, do you reset overpower with either a Thunderclap or Whirlwind, or just use slam and hope you get a proc?
Fury.
I was messing with the annihilator build with my 4pc. It’s fun. My question is 2h or 1h? With annihilator you gain rage and deal bonus damage on every melee swing. (Doesn’t seem to scale differently between 1h vs 2h outside of weapon item level? My tanking 1h and a cheap low item level 1h was higher than my 2h’s) Would the faster attack speed win out over the stat boost from using 2h’s?
Likewise how do the 2 1h talents stack up in raw damage vs the higher damage that 2h usually put out?
For single target you just send on cooldown. The only thing that takes priority is a Sudden Death Proc or Colossus Smash (Want to get it back on cooldown for Anger Management).
Where you would use Overpower over MS during multi-target fights while you have Sweeping Strikes running. Than you only press MS once you’ve gotten both your stacks. You won’t worry about Whirlwind as this should be on CD (or spamming it if you’re playing Fervor for Battle)
Always 2Hander. Besides the fact you don’t have to sacrifice a talent for 1handers, you literally get the stats of a second two hander which cannot be understated for your damage as well as overall survivability (an extra 4k Stamina is wild at ilevel 489)
Mortal Strike being used on CD or not depends simply on your risk of Rage overcap vs. the added potency of doing so.
Base Mortal Strike does 212.5% of Attack Power (will hereafter call this just 212.5p).
An Overpower with Improved Overpower, Dreadnaught, and Battlelord… does 210p itself and adds 30% of MS’s 212.5p up to twice per MS, for at least 274p until fully stacked.
It’s… nearly as strong in itself if you wouldn’t otherwise waste Rage or drop Mortal Wounds AND stronger until the third use per MS.
I.e., if you would potentially waste/overcap OP charges to cast MS on CD and don’t yet have 2 stacks of Martial Prowess… OP is the better choice (not that such a conflict is likely to ever occur without Exhilarating Strikes, which generally isn’t worth taking since it just decreases your portion of buffed strikes).
Look at the wowhead %AP values for the skills, note their interactions, and do some rough breakpoint calculations for different situations. The answers are easy enough to compute, but not as consistent as simply always using MS on CD, OP on CD, MS only when fully buffed, etc.
For AoE, you’re always taking Dreadnaught, and the 5-cap AoE of Dreadnaught benefits from Sweeping Strikes with the potential to deal a full +75% to all 5 for 105p (w/ Battlelord, Improved Overpower) per target up to 5 targets… so Overpower takes priority over Mortal Strikes if you could otherwise overcap Overpower charges.
As for 2h or 1h, the answer is basically just 2h, largely because 1h synergizes with increases to autos and effect from/on autos… but autos can’t cleave, getting Enrage from auto crits is worthless given that you basically have permanent Enrage anyways with any Haste, and you’re giving up greater stats and talent freedom just to look less like you’re overcompensating.
