2 Paths, 1 Outcome

So I was thumbing through another fan site and someone asked about mounts… thankfully not the overblown topic we’ve all seen here today. So, without being specific I wanted to ask for opinions.

  • Mount A is a blue mount, costs $25 and is found in the Shop
  • Mount B is an off blue mount and can be achieved in game, for free by completing an achievement.

Both mounts trigger the same mount count meaning you do not need the other because it will not increase your mount count. Getting the other would be purely for selection, and have nothing to do with achievements or measurable statistics.

Would you have an issue with either mount? If so, why? If not, why not?

They are different colors, thus would be different ID.

Means the mount count goes up.

Just as scummy as anything else any MMO is up to these days. Don’t really have an issue with it, but I don’t see how this would be ‘acceptable’ to anyone angry about today’s shenanigans. It’s the same people struggling to come to grips with the fact they don’t own things installed on their computer, still.

Eve’s ghastly broom has two different colors and the same ID. The Trading Post version and the store version differ in color, yet when you look them up, there is only one ID for them even though the original colored broom still exists if you got it from the TP and not the Shop.

Every mount in the shop can be achieved through in game actions.

Absolutely not. People can get whatever mounts they please. I doesn’t affect my game play in the least. Plus ALL cash shop mounts can be purchased with Blizzard balance, which you can get with gold through the token system.

Ok, I’m listening.

You just pretend its a mount on a vendor for a high gold price. Like countless others are.

Its the same thing, just with different steps.

Its the reason that tokens are sky rocketing. People are buying the brutosaur on the shop through in game activities. Making gold.

Thank you for being another voice of reason in the “Great Panic of '24!” that we are going through lol.

Weren’t all these people screaming for another Long Boy since BfA?

See my post above yours. Make gold. Buy tokens with gold to sell for Blizzard balance. Use the balance to buy the mount.

Not the same folks. The ones who were screaming for it are buying it, either with cash or gold.

So essentially, they are spending double on a token paying 400k gold for a $20 token that turns into a $15 credit, and they do that 7 times. So they are spending 2.8M gold in essence for a $90 mount to avoid having to pay $90 for the mount directly. Nice. At least this mount is technically 1/2 price for them

Sorry bout that. Caught it a few mins too late, but thanks for the response. It makes sense.

For this particular mount.

Most are much cheaper.

But thats honestly how I have viewed the store since day 1. Since gold can be typically easily turned into bnet. Everything is just like buying it from a vendor. Just with an extra step.

You’re welcome. People are often confused about how the tokens work because you can buy one with cash and get gold, OR you can buy one for gold and get Blizzard balance. The people who use them to get balance usually pay for their subs with it, but now we have a bunch doing that to buy the mount.

As long as it’s only cosmetic I don’t mind anything on the shop.
But if that mount has qol attached to it then the other ingame mount better have the same options and be nearly as acessible.

Agreed. Easily obtained is the key. Nothing like a Raid or M+ level achievement mount. Something simpler. Like “These 5 tigers can be bought once exalted with the Shado-Pan.” Well, it’s been more than a decade, and people who hate to go grind old rep purely for a cosmetic could in turn spend $30 for the 5 tiger bundle. Different colors and could even have a new name the way the Dinos have different names to distinguish which is which to keep the grindy, die hard purists happy.

The only time 5 different colored tiger mounts should ever be offered is if they all combine into a super tiger 5 person mount.

Nothing. Why would I care about count?

I want them both because I want them both. It’s as simple as that.

Now the $25 one, unless it has something the achievement doesn’t. I’ll fork out the $25. If not, I’ll wait for a sale.

If we are using the you-know-what example.
One has a vendor. The other has a mailbox. The 2nd one also appears more luxurious.

So imo, the 2nd one seems more ideal to me, as well as has a much lower ease of access (acting as if both were available today).

I was honestly PRAYING back in Cata when we got the 5 colored panthers that they would form a super robot. I was so sad when it was just 5 Voltron colored flying panthers.
