2 Handed Warrior Tank

Hey all! Is it possible to 2-handed tank in WoW Classic? I’m an arms warrior and have heard of this before and wondering the build and the setup for it!

Would love to hear the feedback!

Yes. But at max you will DW. Sometimes use a shield. However for majority of leveling you will tank in arms

Ok I’m dumb. Explain this magic to me? Dual wield as Arms??

At level 60 for raids you go fury/Prot. Where you will DW on some fights. Arms is only for leveling not for raids. You can tank level 60 dungeons as arms tho.

Oh that is epic. Ok thank you. I’m almost 54 now still just doing arms. If I wanted to start tanking – where do you suggest I start? Any helpful articles?

Yes. Sword n Board tanks are rare, now-a-days. People figured out 4 damage dealers is faster a long time ago

Sweeping Strikes, Whirlwind is the best dungeon tanking opener in the game. Then just pop into D stance and sunder/cleave targets lower on threat. Beyond that just get a full mail/pate set with stamina and your ready to jam

Not a bad idea to have a shield you can switch to if you see your healer struggling at a certain point, but usually not needed

Arms is fine up to and including level 60 dungeons. You will need a shield and 1-hander sometimes and need to be able to switch back and forth quickly.

Arms is superior at picking up multiple mobs because of the ability to Sweeping Strikes → Whirlwind → Defensive Stance → Cleave. You can do the same thing you were doing in SM in any level 55+ dungeon. As with all things Warrior the better your gear is the better it works.

Raids you will want to be either Protection or Fury/Prot (Arms/Prot mentioned below). Fury/Prot is a lot more gear dependent than people realize. You don’t just spec into it with sub optimal gear and magically have awesome TPS. Just regular Protection is much better until you have enough gear to have ~20% Crit or better in Defensive Stance. This is because of the feedback loop that Flurry creates when you get a Critical Strike and getting them frequently enough to keep it going.

Protection is actually a superior tanking spec in many ways, you just don’t have the potential for very high single target TPS that Fury/Prot does.

Arms/Prot is the undisputed best spec for AOE threat. It is an old spec that is not that popular today but works very well for dungeons and even 20 man raids. It is an OT spec for raiding, but a pretty solid one. If you go Arms/Prot you ideally want the same weapon type (Swords, Axes, Maces) for your 2-H as your 1-H. That way you can benefit from the Weapon Specialization either way. Axes would give you 5% more crit which is great, and since you are Horde, Sword Spec procs on Windfury Totem can be kinda nuts and fun, especially if you have HoJ.

Played it, fun, but less effective.
